Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
P: We´re an indie-pop band from Germany.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself
P: We are three old friends and we´ve played in the same band more than 20 years ago. But then our ways got lost. At a random encounter (and after some beers) we decided to start a new music project and „Poploader“ was born.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
P: Our musical influences are The Kinks, Oasis, The Kooks, DMA’s or The Cure, among others right up to David Bowie. Our non-musical influences? Star Wars for sure and daily life on this crazy planet we´re all living on.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
P: Our biggest goal right now is finishing our debut album as we want all the music interested people to listen to our songs. And our dreams? To win in the lottery tomorrow as this would speed up the album release so much and we would have the possibility to produce a high quality music video for each track on the album. And for sure we would release between 5-10 special limited editions of our Poploader Album….a UK edition…a star wars edition….a corona deluxe edition….and so on and on.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
P: Each of us brings existing song ideas to the “Poploader”, sometimes new songs are written for it. All songs are arranged, recorded and produced in the local basement music studio together by Rainer and Markus. Our songs are about the matters of life, friendships and as we are three boys some of our songs are about girls.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
P: All by DIY and as we got a lot of radio airplay worldwide it seems it´s not the worst thing to do so.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
P: We live in 2021 and this is – so sad I must say – the normal way to consume music and we have arranged with it. In our youth it was kind of a special day when your favourite bands released their new albums. We had to drive about 30 minutes or more to the next record store and it was always a special moment when you finally held the CD or LP in your hands and come back home some hours later from your shopping trip to put your record on was simply always another magic moment. Now you simply download a mp3-file or you listen to the songs via streaming. A lot of magic gets lost. We miss the good old days when people had to make an effort to purchase their favourite records and when cover artworks were important for people as well.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
P: Definitely “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out” by The Smiths. Why? Because everybody who has a good taste in music loves this song. It´s really one of the most beautiful songs ever written. A timeless tune.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
P: Songs without guitars, balded men with pony tails and Harry Potter.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
P: Our proudest moment in our very young band history was as we entered the austrian indie charts with our debut single at No.1 and left bands as Maximo Park, Gorillaz or Foo Fighters behind us.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
P: We are working on our debut album release which will definitely happen in 2022. All songs are written and most of them are also recorded. We could say that just the final polish is missing but there will be a new single release later this year as well.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
P: Until today we have released our two singles „Summerboy Blues“ and „Teresa“. You can listen or buy both on all streaming services like ITunes, Spotify, Deezer or Amazon music. For more information visit our website at www.poploader.com
