Para Lia – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

PL: Para Lia is an indie rock duo from Cottbus near Berlin in Germany.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

PL: Para Lia started in 2018, released a first longplayer in 2018, delivered with ‘Hawk Hill’ a single in 2019 and released digital in late 2020 and in 2021 on vinyl the current album ‘Gone With The Flow’.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

PL: From Pixies and Neil Young to Motorpsycho and 60’s garage rock in music there are a lot of influences. The non-musical influence which led to ‘Gone With The Flow’ was to getting to know the New York based artist Louis Renzoni and his work. Art and music and the influence from one to each other were the base for an album, which themes are art, artist, muse – and the relationships between.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

PL: To wake up and the first news in the radio are not about Covid. Todays dreams are what once was normality. It tells a lot about the times we currently live in. What belongs to music – with Para Lia came the biggest dream true: The sound we always wanted.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

PL: René is the songwriter and he writes about social questions, political stuff as well as about love. Mostly in a picturesque way – which on ‘Gone With The Flow’ is an advantage – music as paintings in melodies and tones.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

PL: We use socials like Facebook, Instagram and stuff. We also made some videos for the new album by ourselves. What belongs to the new album – there is a 3D online exhibition with the work of Louis Renzoni and the music of Para Lia. It is a gallery you can visit: https://www.sophisticatedape.com/gone-with-the-flow-exhibition/ The creativity and knowledge behind is: sophisticatedape.com. A fantastic page!

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

PL: As an indie musician? We could not get us a coffee from the income of streaming sites like Spotify – but there are sites like Bandcamp.com where artists can offer downloads and have a fair chance to get paid by fans or supporters.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

PL: Oh, there is too much own stuff in my head, and that’s fine. When I listen to a  great song which gets me, I never think ‘why is this one not written by myself’. I just enjoy and in best case it is a kind of an inspiration – for next own material.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

PL: As it is for all of us I guess – the Covid situation and the stuff around.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

PL: To manage that ‘Gone With The Flow’ exists, also as a vinyl, without a company or record label, just done with own forces and people who gave tons of energy into this project.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

PL: New Para Lia songs for an EP or an album – without to have special release date in mind.

PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

PL: If Para Lia ever will do live shows – I tell you a hundred reasons why you should be there, that’s for sure! 😊
