Toronto based rock outfit, One In The Chamber, is releasing their debut studio EP, ‘I’ve Got Something To Say’… on September 22nd. The record follows the release of “Bills To Pay” – the EP’s lead single and their debut music video – on April 30th of this year. ‘I’ve Got Something To Say’… has been over a year in the making with One In The Chamber balancing pre-production and recording with tirelessly performing across Ontario. Recorded at Toronto’s Phase One Studios (Rush, Alice Cooper, The Tragically Hip) and produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered by Murray Daigle (Platinum Blonde, Serena Ryder), One In The Chamber is making a statement with ‘I’ve Got Something To Say’…, bringing rock & roll back to its gritty and glamours roots.
I was very excited when this EP came across my desk for a review. This is one EP that I have been looking forward to.
‘I’ve Got Something To Say’ opens with the funky ‘Crooked Step’, an interesting track that reveals so much about One In The Chamber. Christian Dotto’s bass excels throughout as the groove gets laid down. Vocalist Mike Biase commands that you listen as the track develops into a raunchy, fist shaking classic. ‘Crooked Step’ is a superb opening number. ‘Bills To Pay’ follows and it’s just like meeting up with an old friend. “Oh My God!!” sings Mike Biase and I have to agree, this familiar track brings an instant smile to the face. Expert drumming from Gerrod Harris adds some style to this already awesome track.
‘The Ballad Of Captain Jack’ unveils how diverse One In The Chamber can be. With its soft guitar intro and more mainstream rockiness (is that even a word?) we are drawn into the world of Captain Jack. Sounding very much like The Red Hot Chili Peppers, ‘The Ballad Of Captain Jack’ also highlights some stunning guitar work from Cecil Eugene. The storming ‘Something To Say’ is next and this ball grabbing number will squeeze them a little tighter then you’d like, and then go wild as it laughs in your face. I love the tempo changes that flow magically until they totally explode into a rock masterclass. Yes, you will love this track.
‘Itchin’ Back’ closes the EP and what a chunky rocker it is too. With superb vocal effects and a twin guitar sound that Wishbone Ash would be proud of. ‘Itchin’ Back’ will have you waving your hands in the air, singing out loud and totally immersing yourself in the wonderful playing that is One In The Chamber. Magical riffs, a sing a long verse and a guitar solo that will compete with the best of them, make this, for me, the stand out track of the EP.
With ‘I’ve Got Something To Say’ One In The Chamber have an EP that will get them noticed. It will bring in new listeners and new fans and will certainly go a long way to helping this exciting Canadian band to achieve what all their hard work has entitled them to.
Don’t forget you can pre-order ‘I’ve Got Something To Say’ directly from the band’s website.
