Interview with Owe Inborr, vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, and producer of the band Ondfødt and Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?
OE: Hello, my name is Owe Inborr, vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, and producer of the band Ondfødt. We started out in April 2013 and have so far released 3 full-lengths and one EP. Our 4th album will be released in May this year and so will some other stuff coming up.
PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.
OE: We are a Swedish-speaking band from Ostrobothnia, Finland. I have my whole life liked rock and heavier music so when I became a teenager death & black metal came naturally to me and I wanted to start my own band.
PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?
OE: The 90’s black scene has always inspired me as a black metal songwriter and the sounds they manage to create back in the day. That is something I am driven by and want to achieve and master. And when it comes to lyrics I like to write about the dark history and the stories that have been told for centuries here in Ostrobothnia, Finland.
PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?
OE: I wanna create music that gives me the chills and hopefully inspire others and make the listeners empowered. I would also love to play cool shows.
PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?
OE: When the band just works and you make good music together is the best feeling you can have as an artist. Right now we are doing very well as a band so I am very inspired and motivated right now.
PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?
OE: It’s ofc a challenge to stand out. But I believe that it is simple, at least in theory. If you make good music enough you will get attention.
PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?
OE: We just got back after almost 9 years as a live band so we only had one show so far. We really hope that someone will book us for shows as soon as the new album is out in May this year.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?
OE: That is good, that is the only way to get anyone to listen to your band. If you only would release your music on let’s say vinyl or CD and no streaming no one would find your music. I don’t think there are many people left who buy the album only because it has a good-looking album artwork like we did back in the day and hoping the music was as good as the artwork.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
OE: I am happy with the music I have written. I can’t really picture myself having written the songs I like to listen to because they sound too different from the music that I write (if that makes sense).
PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?
OE: To make live music more attractive for everyone.
PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
OE: The band is turning 10 years old this year in April so we are working on something cool for our fans. I can’t tell too much about that yet but I can tell for those who have been following us since the beginning will enjoy it a lot.
PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?
