On Hollow Ground – Interview

On Hollow Ground – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?

OHG: A 5 piece heavy band that fuses multiple genres to create music that we want to play.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

OHG: Around 2011/2012 we all became aware of each other playing in different bands on the local scene. Guitarist Ryan Scott and bassist Bob Howe actually had a jam session many years before the formation of the band but, nothing came of it. From there, things seemingly fell into place. Prior to Guitarist ,Chris, being in the band we had another guitarist, Adam who unfortunately, parted ways with us. Chris was a Drummer in a Band that we played with on the local Leeds scene who we quickly befriended. Chris coming on board made family whole again.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

OHG: The band started with roots dedicated more to the technical side of songwriting influences from bands like Born Of Osiris, Heart Of A Coward, After The Burial and Veil Of Maya with a lot of emphasis on harmonised guitar parts and heavy breakdowns. As time went on and discovering other bands & artists such as Emmure, Stray From The Path and, Chelsea Grin. To also taking influence from Hip Hop artists, Grime artists and EDM DJs has crafted and continuing to craft our sound today.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

OHG: To play the music that we create full time and to as many people as possible.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

OHG: Ryan writes the core of the music and brings that to the table, we then collectively put forward our own ideas to shape those ideas into the best music possible. The songs lyrical content are quite deep and meaningful for our Vocalist, Jack. Touching on his own life experiences.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

OHG: Playing as many shows as possible to get the songs out there and get them heard. Since the band started, we have played in excess of 300 shows across the UK and hope to expand that to include Europe as soon as possible.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

OHG: We are all for it. It gives easier access to a bands music for those who wouldn’t necessarily be able to.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

OHG: Bohemian Rhapsody – We’d be loaded.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

OHG: Social Media. Promoting music through Social Media is becoming harder and harder to do without putting an extortionate amount of money into it. The goalposts are constantly changed and we would prefer to follow the old school mentality. Play as many shows as possible and have a good time doing it!

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

OHG: The proudest moment is always happening. We have been able to keep doing this for over 7 years now and in that time, we have seen many bands start and simply quit when the going got tough.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

OHG: Just working on getting our debut Album “Blood is Blood” out there and for people to hear. Did we mention that it is out on 17th July?;)

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

OHG: Our music is available on all good streaming platforms and Copies can be purchased from our website
