Night Machine Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
NM: Dark/Horror/Retro Synth
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
NM: Night Machine has been around for 2 years now. So far I’ve released 2 demos, 2 eps and have new album on the way
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
NM: I listen to just about everything but for Night Machine I try try to channel everything electronic and retro. As for none musical influences, on this album I drew a lot from 70s/80s/90s horror films
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
NM: My dream is to play music forever and I reach my goal everyday that I’m able to write/record/release my music
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
NM: I write everything myself. For my newest album, Themes of the Dead, each track is about exploring something that scares us, i.e. Vampires, Witches, Zombies
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
NM: I mostly promote on Facebook/Instagram and networking with people I meet around Nashville. When I set up a PR run for an album release, I like to use Dewar PR
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
NM: Most of the music I listen to I’ve downloaded but I always buy it so the artist is compensated. I purchase my tapes/cds/records when I go to live shows
PD: What’s your outlook on the record industry today?
NM: The power is with the people and the artists. Now more than ever an artist has control of his/her own success or failure. More artists connect directly with fans, completely bypassing the industry all together. The rise of YouTube, SoundCloud and Bandcamp saw to that
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
NM: True Faith by New Order. It’s about as close to perfect as you can get
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
NM: When an artist tries to coax an unresponsive crowd to participate
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
NM: Being able to release and play my own music
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there?
NM: My next show is with an awesome Synth/Metal band Fuzzripper in Clarksville TN, November 16th. I’m playing the new album and I have a new stage setup/light show
