Motherfaster – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD:  How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?

Motherfaster: Paminos: Honest! We never go on to record, or play any music if we don’t like it ourselves 100%.

PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e., where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.

Motherfaster: We are from Athens in Greece and since I remember us (the 3 of us know each other from very young age) the number one interest in our lives has been heavy metal and rock music. So, this what we do!

PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?

Motherfaster: Inspiration is a fleeing ghost! Some times we say, oh I was inspired by this, or that guy, but ultimately you don’t know where it will come from. That’s why you never know if your next work will be any good. Will you truly be inspired, or will you produce something because you have to? Generally, I like to write about controversial stuff, funny, scary, or even both! Musically we might grab the guitar and just jam random things, but not actually love any of it. And sometimes as soon as you grab it, you play that great riff…

PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?

Motherfaster: I’d like to be able to work solely on our music. To quit other stuff and jobs we have to do for money.

PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?

Motherfaster: Every album and single we release I am proud of! Also playing before a “bigger” than us band with different style, but manage to win people over! Also “fans” (don’t like to use this word very much) telling us how and why they love our stuff. They keep us going on!

PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?

Motherfaster: I am rooting for that! The average level of musicians is way higher than it used to be! The problem for most is that they don’t have the talent to compose. Most of them just put riffs together and no one wants to hear that shit! Now having so much competition has it’s down side, but it is what it is. You keep going and if what you did last time to promote your music didn’t work very well, do something else next time.

PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?

Motherfaster: Unfortunately, we haven’t had a tour yet. Just individual live appearances. We are currently trying to put together an Athens show.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?

Motherfaster: Illegal downloads damage music but it’s not something new. They used to copy cassette tapes before that! Legal downloads are a great way to support your favorite artists (although personally I am a cd / vinyl guy). Streaming platforms are a nice idea, but they should pay more per stream than most of them do. With these rates you have to be Metallica to make any decent money from it…

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

Motherfaster: Every song I ever liked and none at all.  I don’t have that “I wish I was that guy”, or “I wish I did that” thing. Of course, when you hear something that is great, you get that competitive feeling, but then you go on and do your own thing.

PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?

Motherfaster: I don’t like the fact that many talented artists fail because they are not any good in the busyness side of things. There are great songs that are buried for ever and even if we manage to “unearth” them in the future, the artist will be long gone.

PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?

Motherfaster: We just released our latest single “Zombies in the Disco” and we have programmed another two, one for December and one for January. We also have started the production of two more (drums are already recorded). If everything goes accordingly to plan, they will be released on February and March!
