“One of the best new indie bands I’ve heard for a long time.” – Max Rafferty, The Kooks
“Explosively arena-ready.” – RGM Press
“The relentlessness of this tune will make you want to play it again and again.” – Ryan Goodwin, SubbaCultcha

South Wales based psychedelic indie band Motel Thieves will be releasing their new single ‘Over the Hills’ on July 8th 2022 across all digital platforms. Recorded and mixed by the legendary Nick Brine (known for work with The Stone Roses, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys) and mastered by Pete Maher (The Rolling Stones, Pixies).

Motel Thieves are an upcoming band from Swansea, South Wales. Despite only playing as a five piece since the end of 2017, they’ve already built a name for themselves on the gig circuit, performing a number of sold-out shows and sharing stages with The Pale White, BILK, The Himalayas, Bez (Happy Mondays), and Pastel. Following in the footsteps of The Verve, Stone Roses, and Happy Mondays, the five-piece intends to take their explosive arena sound to new heights. The band was formed by Callum (vocalist) and Jake (guitarist) who were failing to get any success out of their previous projects. Callum scouted for a drummer across a number of musician websites to eventually find Matt and later Sam (guitarist) and Zak (bassist) got on board with the project. Motel Thieves stand out with an enigmatic stage presence that’s certainly iconic to gig-goers. Paired with soulful guitars and a soaring rhythm, ‘Over the Hills’ takes influence from the 80’s britpop scene.

‘Over the Hills’ is a raw and euphoric anthem that sees the band experiment with shoegaze inspired waves of distortion and hypnotic grooves of rhythm. The vocals swirl, all the while having a fierce and energetic edge. It’s atmosphere meets attitude. Previous singles released by the five piece include radio play from BBC Introducing Adam Walton’s show.

Speaking to Callum about ‘Over the Hills’ he says, “There’s certainly a soul to it, that inner sense of self belief within the lyrics. Musically, it’s a relentless track. We were always challenging ourselves to create our collective wall of sound, finding space to play with.”
