Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
MiD: The best type!
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
MiD: My only goal with creating MOFOiSDEAD was to make music that I would want to listen to as much as any of my favourite artists. Our journey as a band so far has been sporadic and disorderly – we’ve played shows here and there, succumb to a lot of distractions and side projects along the way, but over the past year and a half we’ve been focusing on clearing the plate and writing as much music as possible. We finally feel like a fully functioning band.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
MiD: Musical: I’d be here for days listing all of them, but they include Biffy Clyro, Faith No More, Iron Maiden, Better Than Ezra, GN’R, Led Zeppelin, OURS, Spacehog, Muse, Azure Ray, QOTSA, etc. Non-musical: George Costanza, Mike Judge, Bobcat Goldthwait, Ralph Wiggum, SNL and donuts.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
MiD: To write and record music until there’s nothing left inside.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
MiD: We write our songs, and they’re about stuff. We all contribute to the music and I write the vocals. The lyrical topics are just whatever is on my mind …food, sex, politics, the matrix.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
MiD: We tell a friend, and they tell their friends, and so on, and so on.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
MiD: It’s great, especially when people pay for it. For people with serious anxiety issues it’s a real blessing. If you’re talking about people downloading music and not paying for it, well that’s just the human condition.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
MiD: There’s plenty, the first one that comes to mind is Xanax by Maria Taylor; just a perfect song lyrically and musically, to me.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
MiD: Idiocy, bureaucracy, laziness, and bad donuts.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
MiD: I don’t think I could choose one single moment. I’ve had a lot of great moments jamming with some of my heroes, but what I’m most proud of is the music I’ve written.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
MiD: Lots and lots of new songs …and answering questions about the new single.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
MiD: We have our Brisneyland EP, Displacer single, and from Dec 11 our new single The Gospel of Engadine available for purchase on mofoisdead.bandcamp.com!
