MIOU – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?

M: I am a Japanese singer and songwriter based in London, fusing Japanese traditional sound with western modern beat.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

M: I was Miss Japan for various international beauty pageants such as Miss Tourism Queen of the World International in Malaysia in 2006.

I was presenting Japanese culture, tourism etc to the world.

I achieved the award for the “Top Asian Fashion Singer of the Year” at FASHION ASIA 2011 in China and “Diamond Queen Award” at Asia Pacific Inspirational Women Award 2014 in Singapore.

I have been singing around the world to bring JAPAN to the world.

(I am also a fashion-oriented singer. I am designing my stage costumes by myself and collaborating with fashion designers too.)

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

M: Musical-Shakira

Non-musical-Mother Teresa

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

M: My dream is to sing around the world and bring JAPAN to the world.

I want to be a bridge between West and East and cross the border through my musical activities. I strongly believe we can all come together as one.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

M: I write some songs by myself.

Other people (collaborators) write me songs too.

For example, 2 Italian DJs called Axell Tiengo and Dupon wrote me 3 songs of this new album “MASK”. They wrote electronic songs. And I added Japanese traditional sound to make them fusion.

A Japanese pianist called Yukiko Isomura also writes me songs too. She writes more melodic, jazzy and classical songs. Her songs are oriental and Japanese. So I added some UK jazz taste to make them fusion.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

TM: hrough the promoters, SNS, website etc.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

M: Its good and bad. With online, more people can access to our music easily. We can spread and promote our music more and reach to more people. But at the same time, the value and price of our music is dropping…. we have to think how we can survive and make money with using online platforms. Now we are living in the online age.

Especially, in this pandemic situation, everything is online. We really need to think to change the way of living together with computer.

PD: What song do you wish you written and why?

M: I want more western modern song written so I can “cook” the song with Japanese spices. I like cooking the song and making fusion dishes.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

M: Giving up something

Being negative

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

M: When I receive a positive feedback and reception from listeners.

When I accomplish my goals, dreams.

When I achieve awards.

When I win the competition and being selected.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

M: I just released my new album “MASK” with the support of Media City Production. We are promoting the album right now.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

M: My new album “MASK” is available online here.
