Michele Ari ‘Swept Away’ Bio

“It’s been a while since we last heard from Michele Ari – far too long a while – but this release is certainly worth the wait. She’s now backed by several former members of The Psychedelic Furs, giving her invigorating, infectious and irresistible songs another edge. A potent pop force, if there is such a thing as new new wave, Michele Ari is leading the way. “

Push, Current Editor Electronic Sound Mag UK, author of Rat Scabies and the Holy Grail and former Melody Maker (now NME) and the creator and editor of Muzik.

After two decades behind the mic and in front of an array of audiences, musician Michele Ari has added a new page among the numerous chapters of her musical career. In summer 2022, her fifth recording, “New Page” will be released created under the stellar tutelage of iconic musician, songwriter, composer and producer John Ashton – longtime guitarist for The Psychedelic Furs.

With “New Page,” recorded at High Winds Audio, a stone’s throw from where The Furs recorded Forever Now, Detroit-reared Ari has opened the cover to a personal new soundscape combining elements of early 70s glam rock, 80s new wave and new romantic sounds among parading paragraphs of polyphony with hints of even country and disco.

‘Swept Away’ is exactly what it says- that unguarded moment when one feels taken or swept away by another and all of the highs that love brings, sometimes, seemingly, against one’s own will as though one has no say of their own. Swept Away ebbs from those highs into a level of introspection where it has become apparent to Ari that she sees life and love in a vastly different way, from the vantage point of “ a million miles away” and so may seem a bit “absurd” at times simply because she sees things as they are and not how often pretend to be.

“People tell me they feel understood and heard when they hear my music and that is precisely the point. We all need to feel connected and like at least one person understands you- a role I have taken on intentionally or otherwise.” -Ari

Joining Ari and Ashton on “New Page” are some of some of modern rock’s noted musicians, including: Joe McGinty, who spent five years as The Psychedelic Furs’ keyboardist; Matthew Washburn, drummer and bassist and successful producer; Roger Morris, guitarist who was in the Furs’ original lineup; Duncan Kilburn, saxophonist noted for his melodies on the Furs’ hit, “Pretty in Pink”; Fred Schreck, vocalist for “Satellite Paradiso” and writing contribution from Frank Coleman, keyboardist and drummer for Ashton’s group “Satellite Paradiso.”
