PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?
M: I’m an Istanbul – Turkey based independent musician. “MetheS” is my solo project, this is my first project in music. Album named “Demons of My Soul” is an old school style death metal album consisting of nine songs (two of them are instrumental).
PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.
M: My name is Mete Sason, was born and live in Istanbul, Turkey. I’m a mechanical engineer by profession. I have been listening to heavy metal / hard rock music from early childhood and practising guitar nearly for twenty years. 8 years ago, I decided to learn music theory and started composing my own songs. For 2-3 years, I have been studying about music production stages (recording, mixing, mastering etc). Approximately one and a half year ago, I started recording the song entitled “Dark Chant” and when the demo is finished, I sent it to many curators / reviewers via e-mail, website contact forms and music sharing platforms on the internet. Of course, first demo was not sounded professionally and got some harsh feedbacks from them. But I was not discouraged, improved production and retry several times. After having some positive and encouraging feedbacks, decided to produce and release the whole album.
PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?
M: I am listening nearly all subgenres of heavy metal (not a big fan of metalcore, nu-metal and progressive metal). Many heavy metal bands (i.e., Megadeth, Dissection, Death, Obituary etc.) inspire me.
I would like to stay in more emotional side of the heavy metal with dark, moody and introverted lyrical composition and melodies in minor keys.
PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?
M: Aiming to have a successful release and build a solid audience with the debut album “Demons of My Soul”. I hope, that will encourage me carrying my work further and release several albums in the future.
PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?
M: I cannot mention about a career in a music now as I am new around here. But I can say that I was very happy and proud when I got a very positive and encouraging feedback from a professional producer about my album.
PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?
M: Yeah, there is harsh competition and music industry is currently oversaturated. There are thousands of new releases in every week. I’m aware that to make a difference, good quality of production solely is not enough. That’s why I am working with a professional PR company and for now it is going well.
PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?
M: For now, I don’t have any plans for staging a live show. I’m more focused on preparing for release on November 11.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?
M: I like these kinds of platforms and use them all the time. For independent musicians like me, Bandcamp seems to be very useful. My release will be available for all major streaming platform such as Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Bandcamp, iTunes, Deezer etc.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
M: Call of ktulu from the Metallica. As an multi-instrumentalist, I like instrumental songs. This song has very unique composition
PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?
M: Music is highly subjective experience, and no one can blame the listeners about their taste. But there should be at least acceptable standards. There are plenty of auto tuned and over-produced songs in the market and listeners are being manipulated by fake streaming numbers. I would ban all those platforms that sell fake / bot streaming numbers if I could.
PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
M: Working with professional PR company for the release on November 11. Also preparing visualizer videos for some of the songs from upcoming album “Demons of My Soul”. Apart from that, I also started writing a few songs for my next album.
PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?
