Maledictis – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?

M: I’m a songwriter and I enjoy collaborating with musicians.  MALEDICTIS is a gothic chamber metal project.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

M: I’ve been writing music in bands for the last 26 years, ranging from alternative rock, pop, punk, and metal.  I took a few years off from music to write a few published books, but now i’m back!

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

M: I don’t think I sound like these groups, but I love listening to Silverchair, Tristania, Devin Townsend, and JS Bach.  Non-musically, I’ve been very influenced by mortality and nature’s impartial mercilessness.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

M: I’d love to have a sense of purpose.  I like to imagine myself creating music that has value.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

M: I write the music and lyrics.  They are usually somewhat depressing.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

M: We don’t play any shows, but I promote recordings with social media ads, crowdfunding campaigns, playlist promotions, and C-Squared Music PR.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

M: Formats have changed so much in my life.  Digital downloads seem like the best way to get the best quality.  CDs being either the same or a close second.  I like to buy vinyl records from bands I support because I know they probably spent way too much money making vinyl records.  But with shipping costs being what they are and the amount of plastic we’re dumping in the ocean, I think digital is probably the direction we should all consider.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

M: I wish I had what it takes to write something like “Agnus Dei” by Samuel Barber.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

M: Oh, wow… that would be a long list.  I’ll keep it short and say that most of my pet peeves are qualities of rightwing-nutbaggery.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

M: Getting to work with Mariangela Demurtas.  I’m a big Tristania fan.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

M: The new Maledictis single “Delicta (feat. Mariangela Demurtas)” comes out March 4th!

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

M: Maledictis has a self-titled EP out, which is available for download and streaming on all the major digital music services.
