“Generation on a Deadline”
Experimental rock band LunariaN returns with single “Generation on a Deadline” as they forge ahead towards a full album release in 2023.
LunariaN continues to showcase their wide range of rock, electronic, classical, and traditional influences, while front man and songwriter Rivelino Ismaya’s penchant for musical exploration manifests itself in the song’s atypical structure. The song evokes a sense of urgency, progressively building momentum towards a grand, anthemic, refrain and ending with a somewhat solemn chorus, but still ends up with head‐banger guitar licks like the proper rock it is.
The dynamic highs and lows of the song are not unlike a storyteller spinning a tale. Breaking away from the theme of control of the elite in their first two singles, “Generation on a Deadline” instead is a commentary on the perception of individual power in a digital world. “You buy a ring for a fight, and you want to be the referee” ‐ The lyrics chastise the multitude of digital media users who voice their opinions and refuse opposing viewpoints, while at the same time being fearful of the consequence. It ultimately urges them to step away from their “fortress”, or in other words, the limited echo chambers that they have built for themselves. If you were one of the side takers, this song urges you to think of who you are while taking sides.
LunariaN is a 4‐piece experimental‐rock/ art‐rock band from South Jakarta, Indonesia, consisting of Rivelino Ismaya, Anink Edyson, Immanuel Willy, and Ekky Setiawan. Formed in 2010, they went on hiatus in 2014, and they are back with one single each month from January to April 2023, ending with a full album titled “Refined Anomalium” in May 2023.
4th single will be out April 7th.
