Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
LK:We’re an alt rock band.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
Luna Kiss are a four-piece rock band from Coventry City, U.K. formed in 2013, we’ve been making music ever since. In 2018 we released “Following Shadows” our debut LP and we’re currently in the middle of a new release cycle.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
LK: We’ve got broad tastes in music. James and I (Wil) grew up on Zeppelin and Floyd but also dug our heels into the “emo” scene back in the day. Chris loves his jazz, and Tommy is a punk at heart. Today I guess you could say we’re influenced by the like of Queens Of The Stone Age, Biffy Clyro, and GREENDAY. Non musical influences for me is always life, stories and the stuff that I see day to day.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
LK: As a band our goal has always to become sustainable as a business. We want to be able to play our instruments, play our music to our fans and earn enough to keep ourselves fed.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
LK: Chris and I tend to come up with the initial riffs and chords and I’ll come up with the main narrative. What’s great about our song writing is we then tend to form the rest of the song and lyrics together. It’s a great way to write and helps challenge our ideas more.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
LK: We use the old social media to promote our music. We have a fantastic manager from Unearthed who helps us with events. For up coming bands, finding good pr and pluggers is hard, you don’t know who to trust. Thankfully we’ve started to build a good team of people to help get our music and shows out there to the right people.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
LK: In principle there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s not as exciting as a physical product or vinyl but it helps get your music out there. Unfortunately the business model means the artist gets less than pennies for each download.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
LK: Hotel California. It’s a guitar frenzy with a banging chorus.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
LK: Band pet peeves… ohhh… someone needing the toilet 15 minutes after we’ve started our journey to a show. Unband repeated… litter, it’s so easy not to litter! People who stop in the middle of a busy street to answer a text!
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
LK: We’ve had some lucky opportunities as a band. One of the best moments was opening up a festival in Germany at lorilie. 40 degrees heat and the place was packed. It was epic.
PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
LK: We’re currently in the middle of a year long release cycle. We’re releasing 5 track this year. Operate came out in February. We built a mental set and shot it all in our studio. Lust For Blood is our second track, it came out at the start of April. We’ve got three more bangers on the way over 2022.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
LK: You can find us on all streaming platforms. We’ve got our catalogue on there including our brand new singles. If you like physical copies, our album following shadows is on our merch store www.LunaKiss.co.uk/officialstore
