Lindsay Schoolcraft – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?

LS: “A crazy one. But seriously: I mainly perform and compose Ethereal Gothic Rock.”

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

LS: “I’ve been a musician most of my life and have been a solo artist for 10 years now. I received my musical training at the royal conservatory of music.”

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

LS: “My main musical influences are Evanescence, The Birthday Masscare, Dimmu Borgir, VAST, Bjork, LEAH, and Korn. Non musical influences are mainly actors and visual artists. To many to list!”

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

LS: “To be able to be a solo artist full time. To perform and film a DVD with a live orchestra and children’s choir. To be able to one day own a grand piano and concert harp. Oh and to finish composing and recording all the songs stuck in my head!”

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

LS: “I write my songs, but on my last album I collaborated with Rocky Gray (ex-Evanescence). My songs are mainly about my personal experiences.”

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

LS: “Lots of posts and personal invites, but I also run Facebook ads thanks to the help and education of Savvy Musician Academy I’ve actually gotten pretty good at this!”

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

LS: “If it’s illegal and you don’t even plan on supporting the artist that never sits well with me. But I also understand it is the digital age and in some countries this is the only way you music can get out there.”

PD: What’s your outlook on the record industry today?

LS: “It’s going through a painful change right now from what I am understanding and I can tell you that “getting a record label” is not the dream and you can do it all yourself.”

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

LS: “Oh there are a few! Some by The Birthday Masscare, some by Kittie and Lacuna Coil.”

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

LS: “People who don’t keep their word. People who lie and manipulate. And the absolute worst is when someone uses something you said that was uncomfortable and personal you trusted them with against you.”

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

LS: “Working with Rocky and my team and releasing the album “Martyr” independently.”

PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

LS: “Well! We are playing Toronto on December 6th at The Garrison and in Montreal on December 7th (venue pending) and if you like the album you should definitely show up!”
