Lee Ainley’s Blues Storm – Interview

Interview with Lee Ainley of Lee Ainley’s Blues Storm and Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

LA: Contemporary Blues Rock Band

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

LA: Started as a 4 piece blues covers band 2015, then my daughter Tori turned 16 (Rhythm guitar and vocals) and joined the band, followed soon after by her best friend Elliot (lead guitar) which lead us to writing original tracks, a few years later we changed our bass player and drummer and the album EVOLUTION was born.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

LA: Rival sons, Temperance Movement, John Mayer, Beth Hart, Tedeschi Trucks, Joe Cocker, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Early Whitesnake.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

LA: To be able to play live regularly to enthusiastic audience that “get” what we are about and who appreciate the music, …. Oh, and get paid to do so.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

LA: We all do! Some songs are composed by Elliot our lead guitarist and Lee or Tori write the lyrics and melody line and other times it might be just Elliot and Tori, or Lee and Nathan. We all have ideas and we work together to get the best out of those ideas. The themes for the songs are in the main from personal experiences.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

LA: We use a lot of social media, plus Bands in Town, posters and flyers. But mainly on social media. We send a lot of emails to radio stations, festivals and music venues too.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

LS: There is no money to be made from it but it serves as a good promotional tool.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

LA: There are probably too many to list, but it would be awesome to be remembered for a great song like “whole lotta love” Led Zeppelin.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

LA: People who talk through gigs. Being expected to play for nothing for “the experience”.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

LA: Well so far it is being invited to play at some great festivals in the UK. We are still working on the “proudest”.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

LA: Promoting our new album EVOLUTION, which was released on Feb 21st. We hit no.9 in the most played albums category, on the IBBA charts for March 2020, so we are very excited that it has already received a lot of airplay in the UK and internationally. We are also doing some live stream performances during lockdown as Nathan, Lee and Tori all live in the same house. Also writing some new material for the next album.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

LA: Our album EVOLUTION is available online from Apple Music, Amazon, iTunes or direct from our online store at: www.bluesstorm.co.uk/shop (cd format), as well as other merchandise, including T Shirts.
