Le Fomo take us on a raw, danceable journey with Swallow Me Whole

Oakland’s electro thrash pop / gender expanse wave duo Le Fomo continue to rattle our guts with rawness and cradle us with their catchy riffs. They’re gender expansive, genre expansive, multi-instrumentalists Ess Nelson (vocals, lyrics, synths, bass, beats, arrangement) and Kai Hofius (guitar, drums, lyrics, bass.)

The third single and title track off of Le Fomo’s upcoming album, Swallow Me Whole, takes listeners on a raw, danceable journey, and evokes a sweet, hot healing, similar to the feeling of falling completely head over heels in love with someone.

Swallow Me Whole opens with Kai’s catchy guitar riff carrying their listeners over electro beats infused by Ess’s 90’s hip hop influences, locked into an upbeat bassline, all just moments before giving way to Ess’s powerful, rich vocals. “I’ll seek out the dark, the parts you got hidden, pluck with my hands, invoke their forgiveness,” Ess croons, ushering a sure-to-be rapt audience onto yet another nuanced and highly relatable journey.

“Sometimes you meet someone and you see a brilliant, shining, perfect being, and then you start to see all of their pain and hurt, and you want to heal them, to save them from it all. So, you write about it, and you turn it into a song with your brilliant co-conspirator (Kai),” says Ess. “And then you realize you’ve just written a song about your own quest to heal yourself.”

Ess and Kai have been playing music together in various formations for ten years. Their diversified musical influences include Prince, Talking Heads, Elastica, Electrelane, Queen Latifah, Metallica, Queen, Devo, Herbie Hancock, Hank Levy, Led Zeppelin, Cyndi Lauper, Righeira, Le Tigre, Erase Errata, Karen O, Peaches, The Gossip, Gang of Four, Joy Division, La Femme, Leikeli47, and Janelle Monae.

Swallow Me Whole is out now via AnalogueTrash in Europe in digital format to stream and download. The European single release also includes an exclusive remix from AnalogueTrash label-mates IIOIOIOII. Le Fomo’s sophomore album Swallow Me Whole is out on the 25th of September and will be available in digital and cassette formats via the label’s Bandcamp page.
