Experimental UK pop-proggers Kitten Pyramid follow up their recent single Road Hog, with new track Jalapeños, taken from the Burton-Upon-Trent band’s upcoming album and short film KIDDO, due this year. Written by Milligan, Jalapeños is a punky number augmented by a rich, filmic, orchestral arrangement featuring a children’s choir (Kidz R Us choir, Tredegar).
It imagines a future (2050) in which the last remaining meat-eaters are forced underground, to defend themselves from hails of jalapeno bullets from The Vegan Army. As emotions and the imagination run wild, it’s a plea for calmness and rationalism.
Classic Rock Mag:
In their new single/video, British pop-prog oddballs Kitten Pyramid take us into a vision of 2050 – one in which meat-eaters are hunted by a vegan army, stunned by bullets made of jalapenos (yes, jalapenos, as in spicy peppers) before being checked into rehab. Sounds weird. Is weird. But it’s also a rousing avant-pop plea for calm and consideration for the future – its sugared eccentricity acting as a Trojan horse for super-sharp songwriting. And while the message is dead serious it’s (thankfully) hard to be too chin-stroking with such lyrics as ‘We never knew they would be heroes/taking us out with jalapenos’.
KIDDO is also a short film about animal rights, written by Kitten Pyramid mainman Scott Milligan and produced by Static Flow Productions and Directed by Brett Chapman and will be released October 1st, 2022. The work has caught the attention of The Vegetarian Society who celebrate their 175th birthday this September and have invited Kitten Pyramid to join in their celebrations.
“Zigging and Zagging through the windmills, running like clowns across a minefield”
Jalapeños was co-produced with Nick Brine (Oasis, Stone Roses, Ash, Teenage Fanclub, The Darkness) and Scott Milligan. Original band member Chris Baldwin (also in Paddy Considine’s band Riding the Low) plays guitar on the track alongside long-time Kitten Pyramid collaborator Andrew Griffiths of AGM Productions for orchestration.

Bio: Kitten Pyramid began as a collective in 2010, the brainchild of singer-songwriter Scott Milligan and initially ranged from two to 20 members. In 2013 they released their debut album Uh-Oh!, followed by the EP High Five Scuba Dive, with Procol Harum’s late guitarist Dave Ball featuring on both releases (and as the Grim Reaper in the video for English Rosa). In 2015 they caught the ear of 6Music presenter and performer Tom Robinson, who took them out on his UK tour. Kitten Pyramid launched Uh-Oh! with a tour of psychiatric hospitals and have featured in MOJO ★ ★ ★ ★, Classic Rock ★ ★ ★ ★ and Prog magazines, been Sunday Brunch’s Single Of The Week on Channel 4 and were termed “fittingly barking” and “Hunky Dory with a dash of Syd” for their marvellously left-of-field progressive pop. Second album KOOZY!! was released in April 2021 recorded in Konk and Rockfield Studios. The band featured members of The Leisure Society. It garnered similar acclaim to the debut.
