King Of The Dead – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?

KOTD: King of the Dead is a horror rock group made up of 3 unsightly cursed souls. We channel music from the other side and tell a story through the King of the Dead comic book.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

KOTD: King of the Dead have been around for eternity. It has manifested at various points in history, often ending in wanton destruction. This configuration of cursed ones has been working together for a few years. We released our first EP, The Summoning, in 2021 and we will be releasing our next EP, Perdition, this year.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

KOTD: The cursed ones are influenced by theatrical rock music like KISS and Seikima II. We also take a lot of influence from horror movies and comic books. The Summoning was released with an accompanying comic book that tells the story of the EP.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

KOTD: The cursed ones don’t dream. We exist in a nightmare. Each waking moment brings new torment and we are grateful for this crucible.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

KOTD: The cursed ones bring songs back from the aether. We do not write songs, they are given to us by ancient deities in forgotten languages. Our songs are based on a concept. The new group of songs from Perdition tell a story about three individuals connected through time and their simultaneous rise and fall.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

KOTD: We cursed ones in King of the Dead use smoke signal and messenger pigeon to spread the word of our unholy deeds. It’s not a method that a lot of other bands use, so we have this market cornered. Our shows are heralded by natural disasters and bizarre astrological events.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

KOTD: It’s such a big part of culture that it’s hard to have a valid opinion against it now. The positive side is that a range of music is instantly accessible. The negative side is that money from record sales is greatly reduced.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

KOTD: Word Up by Cameo.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

KOTD: The cursed ones are a cantankerous group of individuals. Our threshold for being annoyed is alarmingly low. It usually manifests in passive aggressiveness and sulky tantrums.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

KOTD: The cursed souls have played in a range of different projects before succumbing to the forces of King of the Dead. We’ve been around the world and played shows and festivals to all kinds of crowds. Every moment in music is a source of pride for the cursed ones.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

KOTD: The cursed ones have just finished working on our next EP, Perdition. This is going to be accompanied by another issue of the King of the Dead comic book. We are excited about bringing the next part of the story to everyone.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

KOTD: Our music is available on all streaming services and physical copies and comics can be bought from our merch store.
