Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?
KK: We describe ourselves as relentless, dedicated individuals pushing to make the best original music possible.
As an individual artist I am all about our music and dedicated to performing to the best of my ability
Loyal to my band and loyal to our fans .
PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.
KK: I was born in the Caribbean of indigenous roots grew up in New Jersey , from my early teens I got hooked on 80’s metal and instantly I was inspired to be a vocalist. I was always singing along to the classic albums and realized I wanted to really do it and write my own songs.
PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?
KK: Early on I was inspired by singers like Axl Rose , Ray guillen, Geoff Tate. I’ve had some interesting events happen throughout my life so just phases of my life that have inspired me to write songs .
With King I mainly like to keep it aggressive and dark
Songs about dominance , Apocalyptic Death , Sinful desires , Power , lust ect .
PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?
KK: To be heard and respected , To bring my message across clearly and to make a strong impact on the metal scene . Leave my mark .
PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?
KK: I’d say forming a solid band with 3 other great musicians.
PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?
KK: So far we’re staying positive and working hard everyday to rise above all the challenges that are in front of us . We’re determined to make it .
PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?
KK: We have mostly played shows in LA so far
We’re looking for better opportunities wherever the road takes us .
PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?
KK: As long as the artist gets paid for their songs and it reaches countless of fans all over the world its a great forum to connect with so many.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
KK: I wished I’ve written Rocket Queen from Guns n roses, Happens to be my favorite song . I can relate to what the song is about , Very sexual ambitious uninhibited.
PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?
KK: Nowadays The industry is to fixed on pop and rap
Metal does not get much attention anymore . We metal musicians are not getting the fair shake we deserve so I would definitely give Metal more attention and more exposure in a bigger platform.
PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
KK: I am writing new material for King and making connections to get out and start touring reaching out to a much bigger audience.
