“THREE CHEERS FOR THE FAT ITALIAN” – ’a joyfully profane ode to the life of a true hustler’ – is the first single from the long-awaited and much-delayed debut album from one of South Wales’ most chaotic and free-wheeling musical acts: the twelve-legged, many-voiced, sound engineer’s nightmare that is KING GOON.
The single (plus 3 extra tracks) will be released on SATURDAY 23RD MAY, with the premiere of the accompanying video clip
occuring at 9pm the same day. The single will be available to stream/download from all the usual digital capitalist outlets.
When pressed as to the exact nature of their relationship with the character featured in the song, lyricist and guitarist Joel Morgan, cryptically replied that, ”Giro just got you where you needed to go, when you needed to get there. That’s all you know and all you need to know. Loose lips sink ships.”
The video for the single was put together in lockdown by Goon drummer, Hywel Griffiths, using the bands huge stash of live footage, mixed in with a clip of a mysterious figure staging a pitch invasion at Anfield, sometime in the 1980’s. The intro scene of the video is a dream sequence, apparently, ”with no basis in reality whatsoever, regardless of what you might personally feel it may or may not imply, your honour.”
The full album, the increasingly appropriately named ”ADMIT NOTHING! DENY EVERYTHING! LIE! LIE! LIE!”, will – barring an apocalyptic event (current odds: 12 to 1) – be released later this summer on vinyl, cd and online, featuring 12 tracks of Goon goodness and accompanying artwork by Swansea-based artist and illustrator, S.O.K.
