Kalahari – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
K: We are musicians and we are a metal band! We are all about live shows, that is the moment where we get to headbang the hardest and directly share our music with people. We also love being in the studio, dive in the experience all together, you know!
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
K: Kalahari is a metal band born in Forlì (Italy) from an idea shaped during 2015, which finally finds its identity in 2017. During 2018, we wrote and released our first DEMO entitled “Re-Burn” and after one year of numerous concerts throughout the underground scene, we went back in studio to record our first true EP: “Theia”. We just started promoting it now, so check it out!
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
K: Our main musical influences are: Trivium, Machine Head, Iron Maiden, Lamb of God and Metallica. The non-musical one would be: letteratura horror-fantasy (Lovecraft, Moorcock, etc…), oriental philosophy, astronomy and astrology, ancient mithology, gaming culture.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
K: To light up some kind of emotion in whoever listens to our music, because to us Kalahari is first of all music, made out of strong sensations, that give you chills, and that is what we want to deliver to our audience.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
K: We all give it a go. The first ideas usually come from the two guitarists, Gino and Gabri, and from Nico, our singer, who also writes all the lyrics. Then we all contribute to the shaping of the songs during rehersals.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
K: It’s 2020, so we obviously promote ourselves through social media, but we also communicate directly to our audience, we like to be close to our fan base. We used fliers too, we like the old school stuff!
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
K: It’s cool to have your music always available, to everyone. The issue about it for us is uncontrolled streaming. We believe that undermined many artists and at the same time created space for people who really do not care.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
K: Anything by Gojira, those guys are monsters! Incredible musicians.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
K: People who always say they’ll go to your show and then never show up, phones during the whole concert, pasta alla Carbonara with cream and reggaeton.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
K: Listen to the final version of our new EP “Theia” of course!
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
K: We are working on the promotion of this record and surprise… our hands are already deep into some new stuff!
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
K: Our DEMO “Re-burn” has been online since 2018 and the first two singles of “Theia” are out there too. You can find them on every music platform!
