JW Paris – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

JWP: We are a 90’s grunge / britpop inspired three-piece featuring Gemma Clarke, Danny Collins and Aaron Forde.

PD: Tell us a brief history of yourself.

JWP: JW Paris sound has been developing from birth, with Aaron (Vocals/Bass) and Danny (Vocals/Guitar) knowing each other like brothers, as their Dad’s were in the band Choke throughout the 90’s who were signed to EMI. Aaron and Danny have gone from forming their sound in a 24-hour storage lock-up (then being kicked out) to anywhere now in London that will let them play loud. JW Paris have been taken even more forward with the arrival of Gemma behind the drums (Babyshambles)

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

JWP: We’ve been described as sounding like ‘Joy Division’ and ‘where gritty meets swaggery’ (Chris Hawkins 6Music)

We’re heavily influenced by the heroes like Nirvana, Blue, Suede but also contemporary artists like FIDLAR, The Mysterines and Royal Blood.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

JWP: Release our album this year and get a chart position!

Play Reading and Leeds as it was our first ever festival

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

JWP: We write the songs as a three-piece, we feel songs are constructed as a musical argument. By the time we’ve thrashed them around in the studio, all picked holes, beat them up they usually end up sounding like something we’re proud of and ready for that live test.

Our new single Electric Candle Light is a futuristic-analogue-nostalgia fuelled track all about those nights where you seem to fall into a time-lapse and wish for those past better days!

All our songs are about our previous experiences and we try to write truthfully and honestly about those – highs and lows.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

JWP: Find us across all the social channels @JWPARISMUSIC we will be bombarding you with our band propaganda and shows

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

JWP: Does this still happen? Is Limewire a thing?

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

JWP: Sabotage by The Beastie Boys.

WHY?! This has to be the single song that you can put up and cause absolute chaos in the room.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

JWP: In life or in music?

If it’s music – support your friends and grassroots music. We’ve had it tough – it’s the most expensive hobby anyone can have so means a lot to support your pals.

In life – the rising cost of living…

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

JWP: Hearing our last single Sober on Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music plus all the plays in the USA – it’s amazing to see songs we write in our sweaty practice room hit the airways internationally.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

JWP: Our debut album which will be out in the Summer and our NEW SINGLE Electric Candle Light which is out 25th March 2022.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

JWP: Spotify, Apple Music, look us up!
