Jimmy Maddon
‘Do You Feel?’ is out on March 17th 2023
Channelling the spirits of rock greats such as Lou Reed, Freddie Mercury and David Bowie, Sheffield based solo artist Jimmy Maddon manages to effortlessly bridge the gap between the classic and the contemporary.
With one album already under his belt, not to mention tours across the UK, America and Asia in order to support it, Maddon is no stranger to the stage, having clearly caught the attention of all the right people thanks to a smattering of well-received singles, including the likes of ‘Do I Turn You On?’ and ‘Talk Dirty To Me’ all aiding his ascent.
It’s a trajectory that looks set to remain steadfast too, with new single ‘Do You Feel?’ only serving to increase the speed of his rise. “This was written while I was breaking up with a girlfriend I was living with – we knew the relationship was all but over but tried to keep it alive.” Maddon explains. “
It was recorded in a studio built basically beneath Bramall Lane in Sheffield in the middle of a snow storm. We recorded the album from 8pm until 4am each night, huddled about the studio with cigarettes and the odd shot of whiskey.
We tried to set the Exile on Main Street-meets-Electric Warrior atmosphere to get that sound and took in some of the emotion of the setting we were in while we recorded and between takes spoke about our lives.”
It’s a vibe and an aesthetic that Maddon and his producer seems to have encapsulated perfectly. Four minutes of moody and sprawling blues inspired rock, it’s a track in which one listen belies just how nuanced it is. Expect to see more from Jimmy Maddon over the coming months.
