The band started in early 2016. Rob and Phil share a deep history working in bands previous to JB3. They started to write and produce a sound inspired by late 60’s Californian rock from Phil and mutual interest of 80’s rock. Chris found his way into the band adding a punk type element in to the mix. Since then listeners and crowds have been discovering a unique and distinctive sound – the bold product of a cocktail of influences; a vocalist (Robert Papworth) whose primal tone and varied, melodic approach evokes more than hints of traditional rock and grunge; a pioneering guitarist (Phil Borrett) who embraces both American and British styles of playing, forcing riffs and melodies through both a guitar amp and bass amp resulting in a trademark spectral sound. Instrumental and vocal patterns are echoed and reinforced by a drummer (Chris Ford) whose early punk roots combine with delicate percussive tendencies.
An early demo version of a live favourite (“Rain”) captured the interest of UK and US radio stations spurring the trio on to continue writing whilst honing the overall sound and experience of Jet Black 3. Jet Black 3 released their first single ‘Remember My Name’ through The Animal Farm label on the 24th February 2017.
