JEKYLL are four Blackpool rocksters who consist of Joel Foster (vocals / guitar), Lewis Armistead (bass), Liam Singleton (drums) and Mike Spence (guitar). On July 30th they release a brrrrand new single called ‘Catherine Wheel’, which takes their gloweringly sturdy alt.rock template and gives it a hectic guitar-slamming hammering.

“Born out of the more stagnant and frustrating moments of lockdown, ‘Catherine Wheel’ is about the disorientation and panic of feeling that your life is passing by faster than you can keep up with, before you’ve even figured out what you want from it or how to use the precious time you’ve got to its full potential,” explains singer Joel.

“We deliberately tried to make the music sound as chaotic as possible and we can’t wait for the opportunity to really get our teeth into it live. The song was recorded during the same sessions as ‘Tear Ourselves In Two’ and was sonically inspired by dark shoegaze and artists like The Horrors, early Muse and Placebo.”

Wot, no Catherine Wheel band?? No matter, the ‘Catherine Wheel’ song spins into rapid life after the ‘Tear Ourselves In Two’ single (June 11th), Jekyll’s first release since ‘The Whispering Gallery’ EP of March 2020, just before things went a bit, y’know, bendier than a Jekyll sonic riff. Both tracks will be appearing on Jekyll’s debut longplayer later this year, which itself forms part of fierce panda’s Albums Club, wherein four acts each release their debut album with the kind support of the Arts Council’s National Lottery Project Grants.

It fits, too: Jekyll hooked up with fierce panda at The Great Escape just over three yearning years back, and just in time for their lively, driving debut ‘Jekyll’ EP. Much of that release, as well as the ‘The Whispering Gallery’ singles, have been heartily championed by Huw Stephens, Steve Lamacq and John Kennedy, while their BBC Maida Vale session for Radio 1 was played out on the Huw, Jack Saunders and Daniel P Carter shows.

Throw in media and live support from BBC Introducing, This Feeling, Gigslutz, The Zine, Backseat Mafia and Kick Out The Jams, plus the weirdly disenfranchised homebound glory of playing Austin’s SXSW 2021 from a jazz club in Chelsea, Londonshire. Then hope to the lord in the skies above that these live alt.rockings here take place, fierce pandemics willing…
