Jeffrey Hoad The Rich and Famous Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

The Rich and Famous are in control and announce to the world that their five song Interesting little chatmanifesto, “Take Us To Your Leader” is soon to be released.

Fronted by Jeffrey Hoad (Kings Of The Sun), The Rich and Famous are a high powered merger of rock, glamour, satire and mind control in its purest form. We had an interesting little chat with Jeffrey at this hugely busy time for the band.

PD. What type of artist are you?

JH. ntamed and uncategorised and unsigned.  The holy grail of U.

PD. Tell us the brief history of yourself.

JH. I came, I rocked and I haven’t left yet.

PD. Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

JH. Old blues such as Howlin Wolf, Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker was the first artist I learnt to play blues to, I’ve stolen many lick from John Lee Hooker!  I love early Elvis, Creedence Clearwater Revival and the harmonies of The Everley Brothers.  T-Rex, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band and all the Australian rock greats such as Rose Tattoo and AC/DC.  Johnny Winter is also a big influence.  Modern influencers – believe it or not I am really into reggae, I love Yellowman and Buju Banton.  Modern rock favourites – Jack White I find an exceptionally exciting artist and one of my all-time favourite bands are ZZ Top, mostly their early stuff.  My number 1 favourite of course – The Rolling Stones, to me their catalogue of music has covered just about every aspect of rock n roll from ballads, to folk to country to hard rock to funk – every genre you can think of they have it all!  Great front man, great guitarist, lyrics bar none and everything else it takes to make a great rock band, glamour, controversy and they always get the girl.

PD. What are your dreams and goals?

JH. World domination in a biblical sense, but on my terms.

PD, Tell us about the new album, what can we expect?

JH. An explosion of ideas that came out of a fresh creative burst, one never knows where inspiration will come from but we happy when it comes.  The Rich and Famous affords a wealth of topics to choose from with your tongue placed firmly in your cheek.  Which is why I named the band as such to afford a sense of irony – the worlds fascination with the rich and famous and celebrities it’s almost like a train wreck yet we cannot  stop looking.  It’s such a deep well of material! With the current state of affairs with our reptilian friends/illuminati ruling the world for the own devices I felt it only fitting to explain their true intentions.

PD. Who wrote the songs, what are they about?

JH. I write the songs/creative concepts and then take it to the band and together we beat them into shape.

Take Us To Your Leader – see previous question.

Dirty Music  – is about the music we all love most of the time its music we’re told not to listen to or if it’s not, the person who wrote the stuff we were told not to listen to was listening to something they were told not to listen to.  I like the rock family tree where you can trace influences back via each artist and their music to what they were listening to at the time they wrote their songs e.g. The Rolling Stones – early blues, AC/DC – early blues….the devils music has a lot to answer for….

Blast Off – this was the first song I wrote for the new EP signifying a launch into new horizons creatively.

Strict Discipline – is about the quandary of life.  If you want everything in life you have to be disciplined – only one slice of pizza, just two alcoholic drinks each week, if you want it all you have to give it up, it’s ridiculous.  I think of the most successful people of the world on their treadmills late at night while the world sleeps….give up everything and you ‘might’ become successful.

Have You Heard – is about social media and the dirty little secrets of talk shows, Instagram, twitter and people’s fascination which used to newspapers but is now more instant and disposable due to social media, I heard it on the grapevine, revisited.

PD. What are you most proud of with the new album?

JH. That its three piece band that creates all the energy.  There’s no massive overdubs or orchestras it’s just three guys bashing it out and to me it doesn’t sound like anything is missing.

PD. What will you be doing to promote the new album?

JH. I’ve just enlisted a group of Nigerian telemarketers – they called me out of the blue to tell me that they had US$1,000,000 waiting for me….

PD. Where can we get the album from and in what formats will it be available?

JH. Physical CD’s can be purchased from the bands’ website www.therichandfamousband.com – you should sign up to our newsletter while you’re there – you wouldn’t want to be the last one on earth to hear our announcements.  The EP and singles are also available in digital format from all major digital retailers such as iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon, Google Play and can be streamed on Spotify and more.  But our website is the first place to go for all things related to The Rich and Famous – from there you’ll be launched in the direction of rock.

PD. What’s your outlook on the record industry today?

JH. As confused as most.  However the rise of the machines and discovering new music digitally has broken the barriers created by record companies.  Don’t forget The Rolling Stones were turned down as were The Beatles, so if the major decisions are left up to just a couple of big wig record company execs, what would have happened to rock?  But now the only problem is filtering through a flooded market and for most people they need to be told something is good before they accept it (that’s why ‘idol’ and x-factor are popular).  Search and seek and you shall find…and trust your own opinion.

PD. What are some of your pet peeves?

JH. Advertisements.  Mid-strength beer.  The Law.

PD. Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

JH. We’ll be playing in a galaxy near you, stay tuned to our website for further transmissions.  The light show is phenomenal!
