Jack Ire – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD:  How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?

JI: I am a multi-instrumentalist and composer. I write my own music and also collaborate with other artists.

PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.

JI: I’m a 16 year old from a small town in Tennessee. I started teaching myself to play guitar 3-4 years ago and everything branched off from there.

PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?

JI: Some of my biggest influences include Scandinavian metal, old jazz, and I’m very heavily influenced by local bands of present and past from Corinth, Mississippi. Probably my biggest musical influence, I’d say, is Rhode Island’s Brown Bird. I like to write about personal events or about the darker undertones of the everyday world around us. As well as overcoming these things.

PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?

JI: I plan to help other artists along in my music journey as well as help people struggling to find themselves in today’s world through the decadence and deceit we are facing in 2022.

PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?

JI: Probably being able to create and collaborate with artists on finally get my solo career moving. It’s just begun and it’s already been an incredible experience.

PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?

JI: From what I’ve been able to tell the only way to truly get things noticed is gaining some following on social media, otherwise you won’t be noticed or respected. I’ve also began working now with Metal Devastation PR and they are doing a tremendous job with helping me get my music and my brand out there.

PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?

JI: As of now my network I’ve built up has brought me to my live shows and performances. As of now, I have a show coming up at the Corinth Coliseum as an opening act for a musical by Katie Frost on January 27th.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?

JI: I think it’s really unfortunate that we don’t get the old experiences in the mainstream like we once had, due to online streaming services. Like actually having to go out and look for CD’s and tapes and discover new artists that way. But it makes sense that that’s where it has to go nowadays, we crave the convenience of it and we only have the attention span to listen to a 2 minute single at a time.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

JI: Probably “Russian Dance” by Tom Waits. It’s such an incredibly well written instrumental track from Tom Waits.

PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?

JI: I find it unfortunate that we have to rely on creating an image on social media in order to satisfy what people want us to be, in order to get noticed.

PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?

JI: I am currently working on my EP, to be released mid-January of 2023. I am also looking for work in composing soundtracks.

PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?

JI: My music is out on all streaming services and you can buy my merch on Shopify.
