Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
I: I’m a rock singer and songwriter. Most of my songs are indie rock-grunge songs.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
I:I’m a British 21 years old living in Brussels. I have a past of high level sports and got my Law Bachelor last year. I started music when I was 5, stopped piano for a moment before beginning to write songs. I have been writing poems and books since the age of 10, maybe I’ll end up publishing them at some point.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
I: I have very diverse influences. A non-musical but poetry influence is to be found in french Arthur Rimbaud, even though it might not appear in my songs as they are written in English. I’m definitely influenced by a wide variety of artists such as Nirvana, AC/DC, Trust or even Queen.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
I: I have many artistic projects for which I have big ambitions. Some of them are, quite obviously, musical, but some are of a totally different nature. You’ll find out soon !
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
I: I write my own songs (and I don’t think I would like someone else to do that for me). The topics are very diverse. So far, there has been a emphasis on hypocrisy. But I have several irons in the fire.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
I: At the moment, I have got the help of three agencies in the UK, Germany and France, and some people as well are trying to promote me in Belgium, even though this country isn’t of a great help at the moment.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
I: In the current context, I wish it didn’t exist. You want to know why ? All the people who claim artists aren’t a priority at the moment, who are against the restart of live shows… wouldn’t have anything to listen to during these lockdowns. That’d be a good thing, because this way they might realize what a life without art looks and sounds like.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
I: The Man Th… Oh sorry, I was about to reveal the title of one of my future songs ! Kidding aside, probably “Initials B.B.” by Serge Gainsbourg. It’s such an incredible melody.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
I: I try to be as indifferent as I can to annoying things coming from the outside. I guess I hate when some French people are using English words in the middle of a sentence, with some kind of homemade accent. The worst thing about it is that they think they sound clever when doing that. And let’s see… Oh yeah, people driving way too slow on the road. That’s also something that irritates me quite properly.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
I: I really don’t know. I guess I need more time to look back at what I am currently doing and see if I’m proud.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
I: I’m working on the music video for the final song of my EP, on some new songs for my future album and on a couple of totally different artistic projects as well.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
I: The Quest and Shadows of Fire are available on every platform. And Settings will be as well on the 3rd February. Very soon, my new website will be ready and we will set up a store to buy the album when it’s released, and some other cool stuff as well…
