Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?
IWW: We’re a metal band. I laughed when the term Stoner Rock was introduced. I thought all bands were stoned, high, loaded, wasted, faded, or torn up in some way, but I guess we fit the bill.
PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e., where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.
IWW: I’m from Albany, NY. I played in Blind Legion, then moved to LA to form Lost Breed. I moved back to Albany in 2002 and formed Blackjack Blades, Cardiac Noose and now Ike’s Wasted World.
PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?
IWW: My influences are Alice Cooper, Sabbath, Motorhead, Nugent, Lizzy, etc. Our lyrical themes include sex, drugs, rock and roll, rebellion, motorcycles, a general disregard for authority, war and lots of other fun stuff, too.
PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?
IWW: To create as much music as possible amd have a good time doing it.
PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?
IWW: I’m proud of all my recordings and gigs, but I’m psyched about our new “Tres Lobos” album, currently available on Nervous Breakdown Records / Half Beast Records.
PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?
IWW: Not bad for a guy who doesn’t really dig computers. I learned how to edit video a little and do OK with social fuckin media.
PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?
IWW: I’d really like to get to Europe. We’re currently playing on the east coast. If you’re a promotor ,hit me up.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?
IWW: It really doesn’t matter what I think. That’s the way it is. Steal it ,buy it ,but don’t deny it.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
IWW: Wow. Cool question. So deep. So, I’ll get deep. “Masters of War ” by Bob Dylan.
PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?
IWW: More money for the bands.
PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
IWW: I just finished editing our video for the song “Be the Night.” It’s a Wino song originally recorded by The Obsessed.
PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?
IWW: Ike’s Wasted World on bandcamp, facebook, you tube, etc. You get the picture? Thanks to all you Wasted MFERS out there.
