I Fight Bears – Interview

Interview with Drew Hamley (Bass/Vocals) of I Fight Bears and Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

IFB: We are a metalcore band called I Fight Bears with Melodic choruses and insane riffs

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

IFB: We formed around 2015. Released our debut self titled album in 2018. Got notoriety for our tongue in cheek cover of ‘Gold’ by Spandau Ballet at the end of 2018. We’re about to return with our brand new EP ‘Liberosis’ very soon.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

IFB: Each member of the band has diverse influences which makes us as band unique and diverse when it comes to putting songs together. Bands we collectively like would be Killswitch Engage, Lamb Of God, Parkway Drive and many more.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

IFB: We don’t have any grand illusions of being famous. We just like to make music and have fun. If people are digging what we’re putting out then that’s great.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

IFB: All of the songs are written collectively. Chris Treharne (Guitars) and Marc James (Guitars) will sculpt a demo and show it to the rest of us. Scott Preece (Drums) will carve out what he wants to play on it and then Dan Blackmore and Myself will get in the vocal booth and hammer out our ideas for the vocals. All of our songs lyrically range from personal feelings we have experienced or events that have unfolded in the world.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

IFB: We push pretty much everything out through socials (Facebook, twitter, YouTube, Instagram) as well as try and reach new audiences from playing shows.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

IFB: I come from an old school methodology when it comes to ownership. I still like the physical  feel of holding a record and taking in the artwork and design. But streaming services do have their place. If it wasn’t for iTunes and Spotify, we wouldn’t have the level of fans we have around the world without them.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

IFB: Blinding Lights by The Weekend. Not necessarily for the money (although that would be cool) but it’s just a banger of a song. Imagine saying you wrote that?

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

IFB: Where the hell do I start? People who don’t take care when spelling or grammar checking on socials. Drives me insane.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

IFB: There’s been a few. But being woken at 2am in the morning because your socials are going insane due to the release of our cover of Gold by Spandau Ballet was pretty amazing. That was a crazy 24 hours.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

IFB: We are working hard to release our brand new EP ‘Liberosis’ which is dropping digitally everywhere June 24th. We’re also making quiet movements on what our next tracks for future EPs will be!

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

IFB: We have a full album currently available. Plus some singles and our new EP dropping soon. You can check all of that out on any streaming platform of your choice. Just search for I Fight Bears.
