Hollows – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
H: We’re a 4 piece Alternative/Indie band based in Manchester who pride ourselves on our live performances. We definitely consider ourselves a live band …. come and watch us live.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
H: Hollows began in 2017 with our first gig at Rebellion, Manchester. Over the past 3 years we have had to adapt to circumstances around us, life gets in the way sometimes. We feel like we’re still on the up and after a successful reboot in 2019 the songs and gigs are coming thick and fast.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
H: They differ from person to person, from Joy Division to The Cure and Tom Petty to Pearl Jam it’s a diverse group of influences and music styles.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
H: The dream is to be able to put food on the table with music, and that is the goal. One of our goals is to be able to reach and play to a larger audience, with hard work and persistence hopefully we can achieve it.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
H: An idea can come from anyone within the band, so no one solely writes the songs. We feel like we have got to the stage now where it doesn’t matter who comes in with the original idea, when we work it out together it sounds like ‘Hollows’. The lyrics themselves are written by Sean who only writes about what he’s experienced or witnessed.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
H: Social media is such a big and important tool for bands and artists now, we try to keep everything up to date and keep followers in the loop as much as we can. Alternatively we speak to as many people as we can about what we do, telling people at our shows when and where the next one is etc… I’m sure it gets on peoples nerves but they definitely know the name of the band haha.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
H: If it’s our music? Flattered, as long as someone is listening, download away, boost those streams because we need them! We can see how when your songs and releases are a big source of your income that it may be very different.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
H: We had 4 separate answers for this one
Sean – A Letter To Elise / The Cure
Jack – Love Of My Life / Queen
Chris – Outshined / Soundgarden
Dan – I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor / Arctic Monkeys
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
H: Sean and Dan can’t stand loud chewing or people eating with their mouth open…. just why!?
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
H: Being able to write, record and release that “idea” that we had in a practice room. It’s taken for granted I think. It’s nice to look at what you’ve been working on and see what your efforts accomplished …. good or bad.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
H: Due to the lockdown we’re writing a lot, trying to bounce ideas off each other by video. We’re looking forward to releasing our new single ‘Apologise’ followed by the release of our E.P. Once the pandemic is over we’re looking forward to recording and playing live again.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
HWe have our debut E.P, a few early singles as well as our new release ‘Apologise’ which will be out on all streaming platforms on the 22nd of May.
