Helldrifter – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD:  How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?

H: Helldrifter is a Riff-oriented death metal band from Stuttgart southern.

PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.

H: We are from Stuttgart, the town is known for its automobile industry. We produce cars such as Mercedes and Porsche.

The love for metal and the iconic frontmen such as Bruce Dickinson, Dio and Hetfield made me (Billy Kolins Singer) do some vocals

for a local band in the Mid90s

PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?

H: Max Cavalera, Jeff Walker, Tomas Lindberg and many other Extreme Metal Vocalists are a great musical influence for me as well as the personas behind them. Always pushing the boundaries

in metal.

The band’s lyrical themes are focused mostly on mysticism, sociological issues, horror movies and video games, with a heavy dose of surrealism.

PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?

H: We just want to do what we love most: Metal.

And of course share our music to the masses.

PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?

H: We are proud about the bond between us, about the music we are doing.

We do this for the love of metal.

PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?

H: I Guess everybody has the same challenges today, but it also gives the opportunity to everyone to make his own music, his own vision come true.

There are many good bands out there, some underground bands are even better than the shit of some mainstream bands are doing nowadays. You got to

keep working.

PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?

H: We have some upcoming shows running for now, mostly near our hometown Stuttgart. In early 2023 there

will be far more shows to play. Covid has done some serious damage to the scene. We are promoting our shows

with social media advertisement and we are giving some flyers away at every metal show or party that is going on.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?

H: Streaming is now mandatory, I mean how will you promote your music if you cannot give access to everyone?

Of course the old days of cassette tape sharing where cool, but now you have potentially more people to share your music

then before.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

H: Battery from Metallica, I still listen to it in my car once a day while driving at work.

One of most powerful songs ever written.

PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?

H: I hope that there will be a way for artists to earn a little more from their music in the future.

I think Bandcamp is an amazing place to share and buy music for a fair share with the artists.

PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?

H: We are working on a collaboration Single together with the guys from Virocracy and Traitor.

Soon there will be more information’s about that!

PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?
