Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
H: I’d like to think we’re the type that’s actually bringing up some meaning rather than looking to create a quick tune that cashes in and gets forgotten the next day. At least it’s what we’re trying to do. The rest is listener’s choice and whether they like it or not.
PD:Tell us the brief history of yourself.
H: Helestios is formed just over a year ago in UK and it’s pretty much when we begun working on making an album. The covid and restrictions of which majority are just really bad and shortsighted decisions clearly didn’t help. But it was a great experience and you know the most important thing is we had set a target for 2020 and got it done! A debut album is released and we’re really happy for how it’s been received, ever since the first song – sacrifice came out we were receiving good messages from people and you know it’s a good thing people still do it because it kind of gives you motivation and confidence that there are actually people out there who enjoy the same stuff that we do! It’s awesome!
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
H: There are bands you just can’t miss – I think we all at some degree been exposed to the blasphemous works and viciousness of Metallica, Sepultura, Death, Megadeth, Dream Theater, Joe Satriani…
The non musical ones are the ones inspiring with certain stuff they’ve done. To me I lately find John Lennon inspiring because of what he was talking about deep state along with M.L.King. The sad part of course is that these both guys are gone, but the deep state or whatever the name of organisation might be today keep being underneath the surface so to speak and keeps manipulating with people, with public thought, with events and even with people’s habits and reactions to certain things… But hey if you speak anything of this sort – you automatically become conspiracy theorist…I wonder why, because even JFK spoke about it publicly.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
H: To be happy. And to see everyone else happy with everything in their lives. No dictatorships across the globe, freedom of travel for everyone, everywhere, education system based on values that are more focused on helping you find yourself in life rather than one that makes you think what job do I do to get more money to be able to survive and pay mortgages that system has prepared for you – surprise!!! Science that is more interested in advancing humanity forward in the future, planetary expansion , stem cell and genetic medicine accessible to us all rather than making money from us by pushing in some products of mass consumption, such as mandatory medication for example…
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
H: For majority of things that’s Henrijs’ department and for solos please go to Stelios’ office.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
H: Well due to this deadly plague that’s been murdering humanity we can only promote ourselves through digital environment – but we’re definetly looking forward to promote music doing live venues as soon as that begins to materialize.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
H: It’s great! The fact that we have an option to download almost anything nowadays is just great! As for any artist it offers a lot more ways to be covered but there’s a downside to it however – it’s not seventies or even eighties anymore when there were a lot less bands – I don’t know statistics but whatever they are, you’ve got to admit today we have millions of bands and so with this online exposure available to everyone there’s a high risk to be just lost in the ocean of other fishes. So it’s probably fair to say it’s a more challenging environment now than it has been before.
As for downloading music illegally without artist receiving royalties…Well as they say – it is what it is – why not look at it from positive side, music gets listened so there’s a win into it as well!
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
H: This is evil one ( laughs) If I have to be completely honest with you – I’ve never thought about it this way. There’s a lot of great music that’s amazing and it’s admirable that someone actually wrote it and so on but I’ve never thought like to have written something of that’s there already… It’s better to focus on what you do I think, unless you’re job is detective.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
H: Wasted time. Wasting time by doing something that doesn’t lead anywhere or teach you anything… It’s actually not that easy to explain – it’s ok to be lazy, but if all you do is lazy then it’s not good… There has to be balance.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
H: Let’s make a wish here to have this proudest moment yet to happen! 🙂
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
H: We’re in the process of doing another play through video and also looking into further development of more video content. Also legend of Helestios is in the process of works. It’ll be interesting stuff! And somewhere between all that Henrijs keeps composing stuff for next album. We are self financed band so everything takes time, but we’re hard workers/rockers and we’ll get there eventually! Great thing is support from fans of course – to any artist it’s not just a purchase of a CD or merchandise, it’s the motivation you get because people like what you do!
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
H: We’ve got accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter – you can listen our music on Youtube, Spotify, Itunes, Amazon and many other platforms! You can get to bandcamp and buy our physical CD + Digital album https://helestios.bandcamp.com/releases , we’re also bringing up a limited amount of awesome looking t-shirts very soon!
