Guerrilla Ghost – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
GG: Some people say we’re rap rock. Some people say were noise rap. Some people say we suck. I haven’t pigeonholed us into a specific genre yet.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
GG: We met at a DIY music/craft fair through a mutual friend. Made some demos and we liked them. Thankfully, a lot people liked them too. We’ve played some high profile shows and released critically accepted material ever since. We have no plans on slowing down, unless I get murdered by the police.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
GG: I listened to a lot of 90’s R&B and powerviolence during the creation process of this record. I also watched a lot of cooking and travel shows. You could say I owe a lot to Jodeci and Anthony Bourdain.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
GG: My goal is to raise my daughters to be strong, healthy and independent. I want to make a positive change in this world. I also wouldn’t mind getting back into touring and meeting new people and having new adventures.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
GG: Tron Jovi composes the music and I write the lyrics. I talk about what I see and how I feel. The topics vary from personal experiences to current social and political commentary. This record I wanted to create a dialogue that everyone could find something to identify with and help immerse them into the music.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
GG: With a punk rock sensibility. Also with clean shoes and fresh breath, probably a new band tee. A colorful flyer helps as well.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
GG: Why, do you got some old Metallica demos? But seriously, a platform is a platform and any vehicle to help bring our art to different walks of life is appreciated and utilized. Share our music with your friends.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
GG: I’d imagine having written something for Prince or The Beatles would be very lucrative in these days.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
GG: I can be very impatient, my sense of urgency is maddening. I’m a neat freak, I’m very clean and particular about how I keep my space.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
GG: Guerrilla Ghost
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
GG: Currently writing a companion EP to the new album with instrumentals that didn’t make the cut. Reading a lot of cook books and experimenting in the kitchen. Always being an awesome father to my kids. Family first.
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
GG: We will have an official live stream to celebrate the release of the new album, keep watch on our social media outlets for more information as it develops. Hopefully once things get back to some sort of normalcy after Covid-19, we’ll get back to love performances and hope to see people come out and enjoy themselves.
