Grimgotts – Interview

Grimgotts – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?

G: We’re a Symphonic Power Metal band from the UK – we play epic metal music with tongue in cheek lyrics

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

G: We started off as a parody Harry Potter themed metal internet project in 2015 with just 2 members, but in 2018 we recruited a full line up and became a full Power Metal band (no longer singing about Harry Potter!). Before 2020, we’d released 3 EPs & 2 albums – this year we’re releasing an album in 3 instalments: Tales (released in May), Sagas (August) & Legends (Winter).

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

G: Musical: Much of our inspiration comes from the Power Metal giant bands: Helloween, Rhapsody, Dragonforce & Nightwish. We also take influence from the likes of Hans Zimmer & Two Steps From Hell. We also play Folk Metal, with our main influence coming from the British group Bellowhead (fronted by the singer Jon Boden)

Non-musical: Our lyrics are based on a fantasy world which we created (called Andria) – the themes and stories of the songs are influenced by video games such as Skyrim & Fable. We also take a huge influence from fantasy authors such as Tolkien & Joe Abercrombie.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

G: Each album is a goal – we take each project as it comes, and we have a great sense of achievement when a project is completed. However, a dream goal would be to tour Europe!

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

G: Our singer, Andy Barton, writes most of the music but the other members have all contributed to the song writing on the 2020 albums – Andy does however write the lyrics, as each track is based on a character or a story from our fantasy world of Andria. The tracks are about epic battles, noble quests, fearsome pirates, and mighty Dragons!

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

G: We focus on Social Media for promotion – Facebook is a great platform to get the bands’ personality out there. It’s the platform we use to communicate with our audience, and we find is the best way to promote ourselves and our gigs.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

G: We’re happy for listeners to download our music but it’s important that something is given back so the artists can continue to make music.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

G: I wish we had written the Pirates of the Caribbean theme! It’s such a great hook and would fit with our music perfectly.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

G: Band members not showing up for rehearsal ! Although, this hasn’t happened with the current members (apart from one time when Andy’s car wouldn’t start)

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

G: Our first gig was an exceptionally proud moment – our first show was at Powe Metal Quest Fest in 2018 . It was a fantastic gig, and we were all very nervous as some of us hadn’t performed in years, but the crowd were fantastic! It was such an amazing experience!

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

G: We’re currently working on finishing the final instalment of our album this year – Tales, Sagas & Legends. The whole album will be out this winter which we’re very excited about.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

G: You can listen and buy our entire discography on ur bandcamp page:

You can buy both of our albums on CD!

We also have our entire discography available on Spotify!
