Ghost:Hello – Patrick Delagrange Interview

Ghost:Hello – Patrick Delagrange Interview

Interview with Patrick Delagrange the new Drummer with Ghost:Hello and Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://

PD: What type of artist are you?

Patrick: I am a little bit of a jack of all trades. I pride myself on being able to play any style of music. I love the challenge of learning something completely out of my comfort zone. That being said, my home base is definitely within the rock and metal genres.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

Patrick: I have been playing drums for 18 years. Started out playing in my garage to tapes and the radio. In high school I joined jazz band and that definitely gave me an edge with being able to read music and what not. I have been playing in bands and gigging pretty much the whole time I have been playing drums.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

Patrick: As far as musical, my biggest drumming influences would have to be Blake Richardson, Thomas Lang, Dave Grohl and John Bonham. Non musically it would definitely be my wife. She makes me want to be the best version of myself.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

Patrick: I would love to be able to make my living playing and recording music. Set up my home studio and teach people how to play drums and do session work consistently. Start a family and be able to take family vacations every year.

PD: Who writes your songs, and what are they about?

Patrick:  Most of the time everything is a collaborative effort. We bounce things off each other and see what sticks and sounds great. As far as subject matter, it varies. I always have believed that music is therapy. So get it all out in the words. Regardless of what it’s about.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

Patrick: A lot of different ways. Obviously social media is a big factor, but I still really like just chatting with people who love music and telling them what I’m all about. There is more of a human element like that, plus it gives an emotional connection to the music.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

Patrick: I think it is a double edged sword. On one hand, I love the ability to check out any band with a couple pushes of my smartphone. And having the ability for anyone to be able to listen to your music is awesome. But on the other hand, it makes it harder for bands to make a living of just the music. Now revenue is mainly generated by merch and other avenues.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

Patrick: “The Pretender” by The Foo Fighters. The song was a smash hit. It jettisoned them into the stratosphere and made them one of the only honest to god rockstars in today’s day and age. Plus it’s just a great song.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

Patrick: Eating loudly with your mouth open. I will throat punch you. And trying to sound like an expert in something you have no idea what you’re talking about. You don’t have to lie to kick it.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

Patrick: Recently I went into the studio with In Malum. I had just joined the band about a month prior and the studio date was totally sprung on me. I had only rehearsed with them a handful of time. But I went in and learned the album in the studio and managed to track the whole album in one day. Super fun experience.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

Patrick: Currently I am working with Ghost:Hello on a new album. I have played music with Will before and actually helped form this band way back when. So it kinda feels like coming home. I am also in the process of writing a new album with In Malum. Super pumped to get out second offering out.
