Gathering of Strangers – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

GoS: We’re an artist that always does everything for the love of music. No matter the numbers or the size, through our shows and our music we will always remind ourselves of the reason we started. From this we hope our music brings the same kind of love and happiness that we put into it to the people listening and watching it.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

GoS: The 5 of us have been playing music since we were very young and at the soonish possible chance we all individually moved to Manchester for its history and culture of music, to further the career we knew we needed to do. Luckily for us, we all did this at the same type and fate allowed our paths to cross and we’re still together, making music now.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

GoS: As a band we all instantly connected over The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Although our songs and style might not sound exactly like them, each one of us were influenced by them at an early age. This allowed us to create our own personal style that fitted perfectly with each other the first time we met. Non musical – David Tenant, best Dr Who hands down!

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

GoS: Our dreams and goals have always been to be able to create our music full time and to share that music with people that love it just as much as us. No matter the size, if we were able to connect with people all around the world with the music we create then we have already surpassed our goals and dreams.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

GoS: We write our songs collectively most of the time. Going into the studio and just jamming out whatever feels natural normally can create magic that we turn into a song. That is the way we most enjoy, because of how spontaneous it is and the feeling it gives us, we have to capture that and build the song from there. The songs will be about anything that is fresh in our heads. The vibe of our songs tend to be quite obvious from the beginning, so the lyrics comes naturally from the music feels.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

GoS: Social media is an ever growing platform where everything has to be promoted from. Whether we like it or not the magnitude that it has on getting stuff out there is something that can’t be ignored. We enjoy promoting not only our shows and music but ourselves as a band though Instagram and Facebook. Tiktok is something we’re now working on.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

GoS: Downloading music online is great! Being able get our music instantly on everyone’s phones and laptops is something that would of been a lot harder years ago. How easy it is to be able to get our music out there now, is a blessing for us.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

GoS: We wish we’d written ‘Killing in the name of’. Getting a Christmas Number 1 without actually singing about Christmas is pretty magical in itself.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

GoS: One of our pet peeves is someone who’s put jam on there toast before peanut butter! Everyone knows it’s PeanutBUTTER before jam.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

GoS: Our proudest moment is playing Shepards Bush Empire. Growing up we all watched videos of our favourite bands play that stage. So to then perform exactly where they stood was pretty surreal for us. We hope to get every bigger places soon.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

GoS: We’re just continuing to make as much music as we can. Our priority is to release as much music as we can for you to hear. In the past we’ve always sat on songs way too much and then the magic dies a little. We’re excited to now write and release at a much quicker pace.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

GoS: All our music is on iTunes and Spotify. Please go take a listen and don’t be afraid to reach out to us on our social media pages and let us know what you think. We then hope to see you at our shows singing them with us.
