Fuzzbox – Interview
Interview with Maggie Dunne (Keyboards and Vocals) of Fuzzbox and Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
MD: My name is Maggie and I’m part of the UK’s best selling all girl PLAYING band “We’ve gotta Fuzzbox and We’re Gonna Use It”. We are a punky/pop/rock band.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
MD: Our band formed in 1985 and we had several hits. Our career can be broken onto three really. The first was our more punky pop era. We had several hits in the indie charts being no 1 for 9 weeks with our first release “Rules and Regulations”. We then became more ‘Pop” and we had chart success with ‘Pink Sunshine’, ‘International rescue’ and ‘Self’ among others. We are now a pop rock band.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
MD: Musically, Danielle Dax is my main influence but collectively we have influences from all genres of music. Vix and I have very eclectic tastes.
Non musical influences are difficult. I like Noam Chomsky? Does that help? Oh and David Attenborough
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
MD: I live everyday as it comes and I’m grateful for my life as it is. That said winning the Lottery would be nice
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
MD: Vix and I have written most of the songs. They’re about a variety of subjects women’s rights, love, the environment, and space. We have a thing about space
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
MD: Mainly via Facebook and doing interviews like this
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
MD: It depends. I think there needs to be a revaluation on how musicians get paid. Its very unfair. But downloading itself is a very easy way of accessing music
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
MD: White Christmas because I would be very rich and I like it
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
MD: ATM People not observing two metres.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
MD: Getting onto John Peel
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
MD: We are promoting the Polyfest releases that have been done in lieu of the festival which is not happening this year because of lockdown. We have covered ‘I Can’t Do Anything’ and ‘Identity’. They are produced by the legendary Mike Bennett. We are also working on the release of a Deluxe Box Set also produced by Mike Bennett in which we have reimagined some of our hits and lesser known songs. Its quite an album.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
MD: Apart from this project you can find Fuzzbox releases on iTunes and other platforms. We also notify via Facebook and Instagram when we have new releases.
