Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
FW: We are a 4 piece Heavy Alternative Rock Band with the occasional Metal tendency, bringing fast paced adrenaline soaked music, monstrous riffs with souring melodies and driven vocals.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
FW: We started back in 2019. At the time we were all working on our own individual projects, Gerard and Dave had just left their old band and had the idea to try and put something new together. We all knew each other from gigging around Belfast so it wasn’t long before we got in a room and started writing our First EP “Tempered Hearts” which went on to receive great reviews and Worldwide streaming.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
FW: We are kids of the 90’s so anything from that Pop Punk/Grunge era really brings a lot of influence to our music. The likes of Alexisonfire, Deftones and Linkin Park would be amongst some of our favourite bands and we draw a lot of inspiration from that style but try and put a more modern-day spin on it.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
FW: Honestly, at the minute our main goal is to get back touring as I am sure it is for most bands. We want to focus on expanding our audience any way we can. Playing live is just a great reward for us after putting so much hard work and time into this new EP. We had a tour organised for May this year but we had to postpone until further notice. We dream of getting to play some serious festivals, really get a chance to promote our music on a bigger stage.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
FW: We all have a hand in writing the music. We tend to focus on our own life events and how they affected us and how we grew from them. Whether it be depression, anxiety, bad relationships or even addiction, these are all topics that we know have a strong presence in a lot of peoples lives and we want to shine a light and try and help those who are going through something similar by showing how we over came our problems and hopefully they will get some inspiration from our music.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
FW: As any new band knows, the initial growth comes from self-promotion and the hard grind to try and establish a name and fan base. We have been very industrious and innovative with our approach to our own self-promotion, targeting each variant of social media with its own unique perspective. Be that Podcast and Music videos on YouTube, song streams and playlists on Spotify and general daily updates on Instagram and Facebook, we try to keep our audience engaged and bring them along on our journey.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
FW: To be honest, downloading music we feel is becoming a thing of the past. With so many different streaming services these days that make finding and listening to your favourite music so simple and accessible, there really is not the need to download anymore. We have benefited greatly from people streaming our music, it has helped us grow a great fan base and allows us to promote our music to millions of people at a click of a button.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
FW: Any band wants to try and write an Era defining song. For us songs like Papercut by Linkin Park or Everlong by Foo Fighters would be up there with the best from 90s/20s. Once you hear the intros to these songs it sends shivers down your spine because you know everyone is about to go crazy and sing at the top of their lungs.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
FW: We are an easy group of guys to get along with, but if you chew with your mouth open we might have a problem. Also what side of the line you fall on with Nickelback might be a deal breaker. (Dave loves them, but we don’t let that get in the way of our friendship).
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
FW: We would have to say that our Spotify for Artists 2020 summary really made us proud of what we achieved. Considering we couldn’t play live and were a fairly new band, to reach 80 countries and 24k listeners over a year, we couldn’t have imagined that would have been the case and are truly thankful for everyone who has supported us.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
FW: Right now we are on a big push to really promote our new EP “Your Weapons, Your Words” which is coming out on the 14th May this year. We are continuously writing and recording new music and fingers crossed will get back on schedule for our tour.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
FW: Our Debut EP “Tempered Hearts” is available to stream on all streaming platforms and can be purchased from the likes of Apple Music, Amazon and Google. Our New Single “Alone” will be available from March 5th and our new EP “Your Weapons, Your Words” will be available from 14th May.
