Genre: Psych Rock / Pop
Floral Image are a psychedelic pop band from the third-eye of Norwich, UK. Formed in 2019, their sound is the reincarnation of the summer sun which is spun in a perpetual party twilight. They harness the noise and drive of early 70’s psychedelic titans Hawkwind – with a bright helping of neo-psych acts such as King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Tame Impala – whilst still incorporating an acid house groove underneath their bright and luscious melodies.
The band’s early demos were championed on BBC Introducing by both Huw Stephens and Jamz Supernova, featuring on the 2020 ‘Ones To Watch Show’ alongside Dry Cleaning and Porridge Radio. Following the release of ‘Dial In’ and ‘Why I Leave’, they have sold out shows across the country, including supporting Triptides, Flamingods and Flying Moon In Space, where their live show has proven to spiral audiences into trancelike, grooving hedonism.
With their 3rd single release of this summer, Floral Image have revealed their most explorative recording yet. El Topo, named after Alejandro Jodorowsky’s cult cinema classic, aims to place you on an epic audial journey through an imagined technicolour landscape that Jodorowsky himself would be proud of producing. Ever mutating, El Topo takes you higher with its pounding Psych-Rock whilst also bringing you back down to earth with passages of awe inspiring ambient soundscapes.
A thumping crowd favourite at their already raucous live shows, El Topo stretches across your ears like a meandering psychedelic river. The single is accompanied by a live session video where you see the band demonstrating their tasteful knack of incorporating both the heavy and the intriguingly mysterious for their Jodorowsky inspired stomper. The Norwich 4 piece have many tricks up their sleeve…Who wants more?
The live version of El Topo debuts on 2nd September 2022 with the single itself being released on 9th September.
