FLECHETTES – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

F: We’re a hard-hitting guitar driven rock band from Wigan, in Greater Manchester, that want to take on the world!

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

F: We’ve been together since 2019. We played loads of shows that year, and maintained a presence throughout the pandemic, then hit the road hard afterwards, playing everywhere and anywhere we could. We recently took some time in the studio to look at our sound from the ground up, which is what led us to where we are today!

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

Jack: We all have different influences, Johnny loves The Smiths, Will and I love Queens of the Stone age, and Nicky loves The Beatles. Musically we take these differing styles and find a common ground. Non-musical influences are harder to pinpoint, but for me (Jack), I’ve always admired Scorsese’s movies and the actors within them. De Niro, Pesci, and Liotta in Goodfellas for example were an unbeatable cast, and the final products of their collective talents are timeless.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

F: We want to go as far as possible with music – we want to push the boundaries beyond what people expect of us. We’re very lucky to have a great team behind us who are as enthusiastic about that as we are.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

F: We all take turns to write songs, so that we’re always working on something new and exciting. We’ve been working hard to incorporate a new sonic signature in our sound, utilising double vocal harmonies as a new and constant feature. We want people to hear us and think – that’s Flechettes!

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

F: We hammer it as hard as we can online and by word of mouth too, its important to find a balance between the two. You’ve got to do it everywhere you can.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

F: It’s good for getting heard, but not so great for building a career – it can be a fickle area that is hard to navigate.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

Jack: I can’t speak for us all, but one song I’d really love to have written is ‘Waste a moment’ by Kings of Leon. I think it’s an amazing feel good tune that still is true to the roots of the band, and one that I think doesn’t get enough credit on the album ‘W.A.L.L.S’ that it appeared on. It just reminds me of festivals and live music and letting go.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

F: When people say they’ll show up to a show and don’t – that has really knocked confidence in the past. If you say you’re going, go! Support your musician friends wherever you can, you just might make their day!

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

F: Collectively, we played a show for Wigan Athletic’s promotion party in our local park. There was an audience of around 4500 people there, which was insane. It felt like a massive festival! We hope to play the main stage at one of those one day too. That would be a really proud moment.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

F: We’re working on developing our newfound sonic signature we previously mentioned before. We’ve some plans in the pipeline. We want to push a considered narrative, something different from the usual. We want people to hear us, that’s undeniable, but we want people to remember us, which is even more important.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

F: Currently, we’re between releases – but all our music is available through the usual channels. We’re deffo wanting to release physically at some point soon though. We love that idea of a physical product that people can keep forever. The music always goes on!
