Five Crumbs – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

5C: We are an alternative rock band from Greifswald, Germany and we have set out to create a modern and unique sound. Our combination of rock music with elements from different styles outside of the genre makes for an exciting listening experience. With our vision in mind to progress our sound continuously, we don’t shy away from experimenting with unusual sounds.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

5C: Five Crumbs was founded in December 2017. Since August 2019 our current lineup consists of the members Richard Ruß (vocals), Markus Schukowski (lead guitar), Niklas Samland (rhythm guitar), Franz Borjan (bass guitar) and Lars Steinfurth (drums). What started out as a simple hobby for all of us progressed into a really meaningful part of our lives. We are constantly working on new song material and really give it our all when it comes to music.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

5C: Our musical influences are bands like Papa Roach, Shinedown, Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, Alter Bridge and many more. Non-musical influences are people like Mark Hamill, Ryan Reynolds, Chris Angel and Nick Santonastasso.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

5C: We want to leave our own footprint on the landscape of modern rock music. Playing many live shows in different countries one day and continuing to work on and release new music is what keeps us moving forward.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

5C: Our two main songwriters are Markus and Richard. Markus often writes the instrumental for the song and Richard comes up with lyrics and melodies for the vocals on top of that. But we also write songs together so you can’t always really tell who had more ideas for the instrumental or for the vocal parts. Our songs are for the most part about self reflection, our opinions about the world we live in and different feelings or situations we experienced.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

5C: We’re working together with our different media partners to get the word out there on Spotify playlists, Youtube channels, in online magazines or interviews like this one. Thanks to the current pandemic we can’t play regular shows unfortunately, but we play live stream concerts for our fans and promote these through our social media channels.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

5C: Downloading music online opens up a lot more opportunities for getting your music heard by people worldwide. Nevertheless it is also always a higher risk your music might get stolen (e.g. by illegal downloads).

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

5C: It’d be Numb by Linkin Park. The lyrics have so much meaning behind them and the instrumental + vocals are just fantastic. It’s definitely a masterpiece.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

5C: We hate it when there are lots and lots of cables lying around at our rehearsal room and when someone forgets to drink up their beer during rehearsal and the bottle’s still standing at the next rehearsal. Such a waste!

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

5C: Knowing that our fans put a lot of trust into us as a band makes us really proud. We received many mails of people sharing their own story with us and telling us how much they could relate to our music and the lyrics in our songs.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

5C: We have two more singles and an EP planned for this year. Stay tuned for more!

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

5C: Our two EPs („Fall Awake“ and „Prisoners“) and our newest single „Monster“ are available on Bandcamp, Youtube, Spotify, Deezer and all the other big streaming platforms.
