Firing Squad – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
FS: I’m Jack Weiss. I play guitar in Firing Squad. We’re a thrash metal band from Woodstock, New York. We’ve got a more old-school sound that’s pretty influenced by punk rock in addition to classic thrash.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
FS: I met Will Lange through a heavy metal workshop hosted by Scott Ian in 2015. We played in a band together from ‘15 to ‘19. That band broke up and we started Firing Squad with Alan Rosenbaum on drums and Elliot Mangione on bass. We’ve opened for Death Angel, Mothership, and Pathology, to name a few.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
FS: Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Anthrax, Megadeth, Power Trip.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
FS: World domination.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
FS: Will and I write all the songs. Will writes most of the riffs and I write most of the lyrics. We try to encourage critical thinking through our music.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
FS: I generally prefer to buy a physical copy and stream music when I’m not at home.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
FS: Any song by The Beatles. Greatest band of all time.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
FS: I’d lose my thrash cred if I didn’t say posers.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
FS: I’m really proud of our new song, “Police State of Mind.” It’s a total ripper and really catchy.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
FS: We released our EP “American Carnage” in February, and our new single, “Police State of Mind” comes out November 10th. We’re always writing new material. We should be headed back to the studio soon.
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
Much like every other band on the face of the planet, we don’t have any gigs coming up. But when we do return to the stage, you won’t wanna miss it. We put on a great show. For now, check out our music on Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube, whatever!
