FIRE the Humans – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

FtH: Fire the Humans, is a solo artist project with a diverse background. A culmination of interesting “Pop” ear worms, soulful melodic cadence with a raspy voice and falsetto.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

FtH: Born & raised just outside of St. Louis, Missouri, I played with a handful of bands and grew up in the local scene. After releasing music with other bands, I decided to start my own lifelong dream of embarking on a solo project. A project named “FIRE THE HUMANS”. Ultimately, a tongue n’ cheek reference to how poorly we’re managing ourselves as the human race. My goal is to write great music with stadium-sized hooks, anthem-sized melodies encompassed with true soul and feeling in every word. I partnered with the ever accomplished multiple Grammy Award recipient, .j at The Toybox, to help take my vision to new heights. In March of 2021, “VANISH” became the debut release of “FIRE THE HUMANS”, and so it began! Feedback and praise from coast-to-coast welcomed this new sound and it’s beginning to snowball. As “FIRE THE HUMANS” continues to grow in popularity, I’m releasing a follow-up single, ”CAN’T STOP”, on November 26th, 2021

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

FtH: As I mentioned before, “diverse background.” My musical influences range from Prince to Rival Sons to OneRepublic to Maroon 5 to Blue October. Quite a wide brush stroke and not to mention I listen to bands like Pantera to this day. As for my non-musical influences, that is anyone that swims upstream. Those that paint outside the lines. Music has somehow become boring to me. Too many writing the same garbage over and over again. So when I hear an artist outside of their comfort zone doing something different, it’s exciting. That’s inspiring to me.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

FtH: In my household, we started choosing a word to attach ourselves to at the start of the year. 2021, mine was “PURPOSE”. I wanted all of my decision making this year to be conscious of steering my ship in the direction of my almighty purpose in life. Making this year an excellent chapter in my life’s story. That is my current goal. I can absolutely say, I am heading in the correct direction.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

FtH: I write the songs, melodies, lyrics and bring those ideas to the studio. I typically start with humming a catchy melody. Finding the ear worm that’ll stick on your head. Once that is uncovered, I start to string the lyrics into the phrasing and base them around something going on in my life, someone else’s life or occurrence in the world. Once I have those ingredients, I take that to the studio, where my multiple Grammy Award winning producer, .j, begins stirring the pot. When it’s all complete, we look at each other and say, wow.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

FtH: Being that Fire the Humans is in its infancy stages, word of mouth has been incredible. People absolutely loved the first single, “Vanish”, so word caught on quick. Originally hating social media, I began only using a Fire the Humans YouTube page and the digital platform Spotify to promote. Since, I created a Fire the Humans Instagram page to herd some people through as well. “Songkick” is the springboard of choice to announce my 2022 tour show dates etc. That’ll also be available to see on Spotify.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

FtH: I think most people would agree it’s a blessing and a curse. A double-edged sword. Great that I can discover and download new music and have it immediately. The downside is there is a lack of romance nowadays. It took effort to fall in love with an artist before. You would work, save your money, go to a music store, buy it, stare at the cover, the back cover, the inside pictures and lyrics and then hope they come to town so you can see them. Now, we just have to pay our phone bill and we have access to everything from watching every concert they’ve ever done, to watching them eat lunch this afternoon. It’s too easy, so the romance fades. I prefer the privacy and mystery myself. Makes the anticipation feel cooler. Although in a “now” world, privacy and mystery is looked down upon.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

FtH: Hands down it would have to be “Purple Rain”. From the incredible feel of the first chord he hits to his first words, “I never meant to cause you any sorrow.” There’s something about the timing on that song. Something about the ambiance in the room when it comes on. To me, it feels like a song that paints a picture in your mind from the first notes. That first sentence sums up exactly what we all want to say to someone we’ve hurt. He did it in the first sentence. I’ve always said bravo on that track. He nailed it.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

FtH: I have 10,000, but the main one is when is when my time is wasted. We only have two things that truly matter in this life. Our health and our time. I am selfish with my time. It’s that pet peeve that should tell those that I’m with, I want to be there. If I give you my attention, it’s on purpose. Stop wasting time, it’s all we have of value.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

FtH: Releasing my first solo single “Vanish” was a great accomplishment. I’ve released music with other bands, but there’s something about setting a course by yourself and reaching the destination, that just feels great. One step closer to my “purpose”.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

FtH: “Can’t Stop”, the new Fire the Humans single drops on 11/26/21 and that has been all of my focus. It’s an incredible song that should go #1. It’s going to be the best song on 2021.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

FtH: You can find Fire the Humans and the first single “VANISH” on any digital media platform like Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, Google Paly, iTunes etc. The new single “CAN’T STOP” is available worldwide on 11/26/21. Tour dates to follow in 2022, so I hope to see everyone there!
