FANGZ is a four-piece punk rock band that write songs with the sole purpose of getting people to party and attempt backflips in mosh pits.” 22nd July 2019
Sydney punk rockers FANGZ have dropped their highly anticipated debut EP For Nothing today. Most known for their high energy sound, composed of solid riffs and upbeat stylings – drawing in fans with their fresh take on the classic genre the band have been making some serious waves in a small amount of time.
The four-piece band, consisting of members Samuel Sheumack, Woodie, Joshua Cottreau, and Jameel Majam, have only been creating music under the title ‘FANGZ’ for a short period – and have already piqued the interest of various music platforms due to their creativity and hunger to break boundaries placed around the traditional genre. The band has released two singles as of April - One for You One for Me and Voices which have both debuted at number 1 on Triple J Unearthed punk charts and received plays on Triple J’s punk show ‘Short. Fast. Loud.’ As well as ‘Voices’ being added to Rebel FM and 4ZZZ.
Heading into the studio, the band found themselves drawing influences from bands such as Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes, The Bronx, Fever 333, Cancer Bats and Maylene and the Sons of Disaster. The band were stoked to be working with producer Stevie Knight (The Dead Love) who brought a fresh take to their heavy riffing.
Super proud of this one! The legends and I went in with an open mind to create something that was not too “sceney” and at the same time not too old school it’s a straight up raw as fuck Punk Rock Record!” -Stevie Knight (Producer)
Lyrically the song follows the journey of Canadian singer Joshua Cottreau leaving his hometown of Halifax Nova Scotia, hitchhiking to Toronto and the struggles he faced on his own to end up in his dream band in Sydney, Australia. A real emotional ride with four songs confronting the ideas of depression, self-doubt, loneliness and addiction.
“This EP hits home the most with me as it’s about when I left Nova Scotia, Canada and all the battles (voices) I went through to get to where I am now.” – Joshua Cottreau (Singer)
