Fade To Ashes – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD:  How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?

FTA: Our music tends to lean more towards the extreme side of metal. Combining elements of melodic death and black metal along with thrash.

PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.

FTA: Our guitarist Edgar originally started the band in Guadalajara Mexico around 2012 and then later relocated to Orange County California. Him along with our other guitarist Eddie were in another band so when that ended they decided to start again under the name Fade To Ashes.

PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?

FTA: We draw inspiration from a ton of different places. Whether it’s from personal experiences, world events, spiritualism, or how we’re feeling at that time.

PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?

FTA: We aspire to write the best music that we possibly can as a band and reach as many people as possible all while having fun and staying true to ourselves.

PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?

FTA: I would say our proudest moment so far was releasing our debut album. This band formed right at the height of the pandemic so being able to write and record an album in that amount of time is big for us.

PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?

FTA: It’s definitely challenging nowadays. There’s tons of music being released everyday so we try to hop onto as many shows as possible as well as getting creative with video content that seems to have been working for us.

PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?

FTA: Nothing is lined up at the moment. As far as booking shows go we either message promoters or the other way around.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?

FTA: I think it’s a great way to get your music out there in front of people as well as discovering new bands.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

FTA: I would have to say “Battery” by Metallica. For me it’s the perfect metal song with the melodic acoustic intro to the fast and heavy riffs to the ripping guitar solo! It’s just perfect.

PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?

FTA: It seems like there’s a ton of favoritism going on. At lease in the LA/OC area I feel like some promoters don’t like to give new bands a chance to get out there and instead book the same ten bands over and over. I get they need to make money but man there’s a ton of great bands out there that could definitely benefit from that exposure.

PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?

FTA: We are actually working on new material at the moment. Whether we’ll do another full length or do something more along the lines of an EP is still in the air. Only time will tell!

PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?

FTA: Our music is available on all major streaming platforms. (Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play etc…)

and also available on band camp as a digital download. We are also on Instagram! We’re very active on there and are constantly posting info for shows and new music!
