Evil Incarnate – Interview

Interview with Founding member of Evil Incarnate Michael Eisenhauer and Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD:  How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?

EvilMike- As an artist I make music for myself first. I don’t care about trends. I am old school but if I hear anything new that is good I am not biased.

With Evil Incarnate we feel like if you don’t enjoy it you don’t have to. There’s more than enough Musick and bands for everyone so if you don’t like it so what. We’re True Metal Maniacs and this is a lifestyle not something we do because everyone else suddenly does it too.

PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.

EvilMike- I grew up poor living in the Projects on Welfare without a Father. I learned very early Hard Work is all that matters and you have to hustle. I learned not to just blindly trust either. I also learned street Justice.

All my friends had money. Single child blah blah blah and had 1/2 stacks, New guitars and professional lessons from day one of telling mom and dad they wanted to be in a band. My shit had to wait and it was garbage. But I outlasted almost all of them and excelled beyond them all as far as accomplishment. Being told I would amount to absolutely nothing gave me extra motivation perhaps.

I sacrificed a career as a Electrician who all on my Mothers side of the family are. They said I had to get rid of my guitar. Said I had no time for it as I would be doing school after work and 6 days a week with only time for sleep afterwards before starting all over the next day. I said yeah but what about my band idea and future? They said forget that and said to me, you do want a big nice house and new cars and fat credit cards with lots of extra money right? I said if it means I can’t jam then No fucking way! I always had nothing so fuck it doesn’t matter I’m here to Jam. Ever since I have found a way and have zero regret.

If I need a job I’ve had many over the years and lots of extra money can’t buy you happiness and makes most people irritating fools or total assholes who think they are better than everyone else. If I had endless money I would still be the same person I would just own Metal Blade or Nuclear Blast Records is the only difference and I would sign Evil Incarnate day 1.

PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?

EvilMike- I do what I want!

The Majority of The lyrics come from my finding out at a very young age most people involved in the Church are total Hypocrites. Most of the teachings are designed to control and enslave The Nations and a lot of it either makes no sense, is impossible considering the size of The Worlds Rainforests and Deserts and the massive amounts of creatures/animals that must be fed and cared for (Noah) or it’s mistranslated.

I was involved in Satanism at first but since have moved to more Blasphemy and Distain. People dabble into things they know nothing about and learn there are forces we don’t understand very fast. Personally I grew sick of the constant torment and dealing with the Hat Man and others so I just do music and Satanic DM is the best in my opinion.

PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?

EvilMike- It’s a Personal outlet for me and is my passion. It’s what I do! I have other hobbies and have done other things but Metal is my #1. I do it for The Glory of it all. I do it for me! When others also enjoy what I do that is just a bonus so I’ll take this ride as far as it goes and enjoy every second of it.

PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?

EvilMike- I remember being so happy I actually almost cried when I heard the final Album 1996 When Suffering Comes in its released Physical form when I was in the Band Num Skull. For those who don’t know there 1988 Album -Ritually Abused (also re released by Relapse Records) is a Thrash Metal Classic of the highest caliber. For me at the time joining the band was not much different than being asked to join Slayer or something so when I helped write When Suffering comes when the band turned Death Metal it was Awesome! I was in that band for 4 years before I started Evil Incarnate.

Our Evil Incarnate December of 2001 after 9-11 Tour of Mexico was amazing. Hilarious how every band canceled the tours everywhere scared to death accept the bands with us. Also totally Awesome were the shows we just came back from doing in Colombia. These people areTrue Death Metal Maniacs!

PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?

EvilMike- It’s gonna be hard no matter what but you just have to 1. Be just that much better than the next guy & 2. Be prepared to work harder than them & 3. Never ever give up! Also remember how overly saturated it all is and just have fun. If your good people will take notice and it is like a virus that slowly or in some cases not so slowly vastly spreads over time.

PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?

EvilMike- I do what we always did. Fliers are super important people are just either cheap or lazy. Radio and internet promotion also. Just use everything at your disposal. I don’t deal with bands who are either rock star Douche bags or lazy promoters. Stop thinking someone else will do it. If people are helping you great but also help them and get a stronger attack! Build relationships with people who are serious promoters and also your fans.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?

EvilMike- I don’t like Spotify! Back in the day we all laughed when the Napster thing Happened and called Lars an Money grubbing Rock Star but he was Absolutely right and I am Man enough to admit I was wrong.

People need to support things like BandCamp. This is Great! Awesome for bands and it gives people the same Digital product. Also I like YouTube. It reminds me of when we all made Cassette tapes for friends and traded them or burned CDs for trading when friends had stuff you didn’t and you wanted it till you could buy a actual copy. YouTube is a great promotion tool and way to discover new bands or old ones that slipped past you until being able to buy a physical copy. Also you need some kind of Digital now days of course.

But Spotify is a total ripping off of the bands and needs a full boycott where as BandCamp most proceeds goes to the bands who do all the work.

And that brings me back to Physical. Nothing is more cool than having a actual Real Life Musick collection and having the shirt’s and patches.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

EvilMike- Honestly I never wished I wrote any song. I don’t even play covers usually. If I have to learn one for a Tribute Release just for the Promotion I will. I have countless entire Albums I would have been proud to have made for sure but that is musick I am a fan of and I have just as much pride in my own work. I am a huge Metal fan.

I did a cover on my last album from Dismember called Override of the Overture and it fits perfectly with my style but I don’t wish it was mine because then I wouldn’t be able to be such a big fan of such a great band if I personally wrote this.

PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?

EvilMike- yes Pay to play has to go! People don’t need to get into Metal for a paycheck. I understand as a promoter myself how it all works. I have lost money more times than I broke even and yes huge bands cost money but just sell more ticket’s. Get bands who actually promote and you won’t need these financial Guarantees from them local openers. Once you find a band is lazy and unprofessional steer clear, Done!

Also the Nerds who get into doing a small Label or Concert Promotion or some other aspect because they were always Nerds and wanna be cool. A lot of them are actually now Great and don’t hold it against anyone and are real but so many are total Douche Bags and still Nerds. So many think now they are Gods who can’t be bothered by some little band and it sucks! They really are still no one and easily replaced. Don’t deal with these types at all. There’s plenty more out in the scene. Also it’s a lot of these people in some bands who all get so jealous so fast cause they aren’t the one. Well, too Bad maybe just lighten up and enjoy it all and stop being a Asshole and learn to play from your Soul.

PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?

EvilMike- My other band Luna In Sanguinem just re recorded and remixed our Full Length Album and will soon release another single.

I have a Festival I am working on. It’s my 3rd installation of Thrash’em All.

I have my 30th Anniversary party Show with my Wife Kim coming up I am planning.

Evil Incarnate will release a 2nd single soon as well and have been putting the finishing touches on our New Album. We are looking for Labels as we want to see what options we have.

As for Live shows for Evil Incarnate we do SteelFest in Finland in May and are planning a short tour of Texas (USA) and Mexico after that. We have sone festivals this year and late fall is the big one. We tour Mexico/Central America/South America.

PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?

EvilMike- I sit on Merch till I have a live show cause I don’t do this for Money and I Hate going to the Post Office. But, look for us on Band Camp as a lot of people have our past work on sale and also most of our Labels such as Bestial Burst (Finland), Dark Path Records & Fatalism Musickness (Indonesia), Helvete Records (Mexico) Dark United Media (USA) & Pathologically Explicit Recordings (Spain) among others do a fine job getting things to awesome distributors like Hells Headbangers and Many others around the World.

You can find us on YouTube, and also IG & Facebook of course.

Evil never dies! It sleeps and when it wakes it Strikes!!! The kings of Blasphemy Evil Incarnate are back. Cheers!
