Everybody Loves An Outlaw – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?
ELAO: We have a style that’s pretty hard to pin down. Like Lizzo said “GENRE IS DEAD”. Buuuut, if we have to put a label on it we call it Dark Western Pop. Razor edge emotions with style and loud guitars.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
ELAO: Taylor and I met in music college in West Texas (South Plains College), fell in love and started making music together almost immediately. Fast forward 15 years, we now live in Colorado, and had a whole slew of different musical projects under our belt when we met and started writing with our producer and friend Robbie Nevil. He was decades deep in the sync licensing world and since making music together and writing as a group was so fun and fruitful, we decided to formally team up and start recording music in 2017 as Everybody Loves An Outlaw.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

ELAO: Our musical influences are great and varied across many genres and styles but we love old country like Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. Dolly Parton of course..she is a huge influence on us. Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar are up there too. And many more..Our non-musical influences(great question btw) are social justice, truth to power, backpacking, road trips and psychedelics. The quiet moments in the wilds of the world will always be powerful for us.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

ELAO: Our dream has always been centered on the creative side of things–we want to make music and get better at making music and connect with as many people as possible through our creations. We want to tour the world and ride these songs as far as we can for as long as we can. We long to see the end of the pandemic for obvious reasons for humanity but so we can finally build the Everybody Loves an Outlaw band and bring our music to our community, far and wide.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
ELAO: We co-write with our partner Robbie Nevil and we write about things we know and love. Hardcore love and life where the dark meets the light. You know…stuff like that..

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
ELAO: We promote our music mostly online with social media, TikTok is big for us and instagram and through our text mailing list. If people want to know what’s coming next that’s the best way to stay in touch.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
ELAO: I think it’s inevitable and music is bigger than being commodified for money, so of course people will share it for free. People have always shared music. It doesn’t really bother me as an artist making my living at it, but we also have been effected positively by it. If music wasn’t shared so easily online we might not have ever gone “viral” on Tiktok and Spotify with ‘I See Red’. I see streaming and free online music as a real and valuable connection to fans.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

ELAO: We love so so many songs that have changed our perspectives but the only song we wish we had written is the next one. Gotta keep hustlin

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

ELAO: Feedback on stage…hate that…so maybe that’s not a pet peeve.. When someone says EXpecially instead of especially. Fake people and pointy shoes.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

ELAO: The first time I was able to change chords on my guitar… oh yeah, and the 120mil streams of ‘I See Red’…I guess

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
ELAO: We just released REBELS & OUTLAWS, our newest single, and have the official music video coming out on 9/1 via UK based CountryLine, the global fan club app for country music. We’re also super excited to keep releasing music, REBELS & OUTLAWS is just the beginning of what we’ve written and recorded this last year so finally getting to release it into the world is the best feeling. We’re planning more of that and in the meantime we love staying in touch with our fans on our socials @everybodylovesanoutlaw

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
ELAO: Find us on all the streaming services under Everybody Loves An Outlaw and download the Country Line app to see our official REBELS & OUTLAWS music video first! We also are moving a lot of our behind-the-scenes and exclusive content to our text updates list—-if you want to shoot me a text you won’t miss anything coming up! txt us +13035292396
